You can play Genshin Impact on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S. To get started, install it through the official game page or your console’s store; to update an existing copy, use the platform-specific steps below. Cross-play lets players on supported platforms play together, while using the same saved progress across platforms depends on account linking. PS4 will no longer receive updates, according to HoYoverse’s April 2026 notice.
Choose a platform
HoYoverse describes cross-play across PC, mobile, PlayStation, and Xbox on its official Genshin Impact page. For this guide’s PC and console options, the current update instructions cover PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S.
- PC: Choose this if you already have a compatible computer and prefer playing at a desk or using keyboard and mouse. A controller is optional.
- PlayStation: Choose this if you want to play on a PlayStation console with a controller. Check the PS4 support status below before relying on that version.
- Xbox Series X|S: The current update notice includes Xbox Series X|S as a supported update platform.
For a first-time installation, use HoYoverse’s official game/download page or the official store for your console. The available instructions do not establish a universal installation sequence or a current download size for every platform and territory.

HoYoverse’s Version Luna VI update notice, published April 8, 2026, gives these instructions:
- PC: Close the game, open the Genshin Impact Launcher, then click Update.
- PlayStation: Highlight Genshin Impact on the Home screen, press OPTIONS, then select Check for Update.
- Xbox Series X|S: Open My games & apps, choose Manage, then Updates, and confirm the game update.
If a PC download or update fails, HoYoverse’s older PC FAQ, published September 25, 2020, recommends checking available storage and using a stable internet connection. Those are basic troubleshooting checks, not a guarantee that they will resolve every update error.
Play together or continue the same progress?
Cross-play means players on different supported platforms can play together. It is not the same as cross-save, which lets you continue one game account’s progress on another platform.

HoYoverse’s PSN and HoYoverse account cross-save notice says eligible accounts can share progress, subject to linking conditions and same-server limits. The account used on PSN and the HoYoverse account must meet the stated eligibility rules; linking the wrong accounts can prevent you from accessing the progress you intended to use.

If you already have progress on PC or mobile and plan to use it on PlayStation, read the current official account-linking instructions before your first PlayStation login, and follow the linking prompt carefully. The account-linking guidance was originally published in 2021; it warns that skipping the initial prompt can create an account conflict and describes unlinking as unsupported in that flow. Check HoYoverse’s current instructions for the applicable steps before linking.

What PS4 owners should know
HoYoverse’s April 8, 2026 Version Luna VI notice says the PS4 version will no longer receive updates. It recommends moving to PS5 or another supported platform and says that the transition will not affect game progress. Do not treat PS4 as a platform that will continue receiving current game updates.
PC requirements and controller use
The available official PC requirement tables are from 2020, so they do not establish current 2026 minimum or recommended specifications. Before installing or buying hardware, check the current official download information for requirements. The old figures should not be used to promise that a particular PC will run the current game well.
A controller is optional on PC. HoYoverse’s 2020 PC FAQ documents Xbox One/Elite and PS4 controller support, but that dated statement is not a current compatibility guarantee for every controller model. Its separate Android controller information does not establish PC compatibility.
