Gemma Viva Drill is an AI-powered practice app designed to simulate a rapid-fire oral exam. It asks one technical question at a time, evaluates a learner’s response, gives a short correction, and follows with another question. Its author says it covers Computer Networks, Operating Systems, and Data Structures and was built to help a friend prepare for college vivas and campus interviews.

How a practice session works

The app’s stated format is a repeating question-and-feedback loop:

  1. Answer a focused question. The learner responds to a prompt, either aloud or in text; the project description frames it as oral-exam practice.
  2. Review the verdict and correction. The app labels the answer Correct, Partially Correct, or Needs Work, then offers a concise correction.
  3. Continue with a follow-up. It asks a probing question to keep the drill moving and encourage further explanation.

This format is intended to exercise spontaneous recall and explanation rather than simply rereading notes. The project article describes the intended interaction, but does not establish that the app can assess spoken audio directly.

Subjects and intended use

The author identifies three areas: Computer Networks, Operating Systems, and Data Structures. The stated audience is students preparing for college technical vivas and campus interview rounds. The question-and-follow-up format may be useful for practicing how to explain a concept under questioning; it should complement, not replace, course materials and broader interview preparation.

What the author says powers it

According to the project article, the app uses Google Gemma 2 (9B-IT), structured system instructions, a Python and Streamlit interface, and Render hosting. These are the author’s implementation claims; they do not independently establish the current deployment architecture, the demo’s availability, or whether the code can be run locally.

The article presents open model weights and possible local inference as part of the project’s rationale. That possibility is not confirmation that the current hosted demo runs locally or that answers entered into it remain private. The project description does not establish whether responses are retained, where they are processed, or what privacy and security practices apply.

How much confidence to place in its feedback

Gemma’s official cookbook cautions: “Please keep in mind that Gemma is an open model and can hallucinate as you build on examples.” That matters for both generated questions and answer grading: a confident verdict or correction can still be wrong. Treat the app’s feedback as practice guidance, and verify important explanations against lecture notes, textbooks, or other trusted course sources. Google Gemma documentation

The project article reports one testimonial from the author’s friend and classmate: “Having this tool point out my mistake in two sentences and immediately hit me with the next question felt like a realistic viva without the anxiety.” This is an individual’s reported impression, not an independently corroborated evaluation. The available account does not establish measured grading accuracy, learning gains, or exam outcomes.

What to check before using the demo

The project article links to a GitHub repository and a live Render demo, but their current availability and details are not established here. Before entering personal or sensitive information, check the demo’s own privacy information and consider whether you are comfortable sharing your answers. If you want to inspect or run the project yourself, review the repository’s current code, license, setup instructions, and model requirements rather than assuming local use is supported.
