The GeForce RTX 5070 launched on March 5, 2025, but NVIDIA said its limited Founders Edition design would be available later that month. RTX 5070 partner cards were available on launch day, so the delay applied to NVIDIA’s own Founders Edition—not the entire product family.
What happened on RTX 5070 launch day?
On March 5, 2025, NVIDIA announced that “The new GeForce RTX 5070 is out now.” In the same launch-day announcement, NVIDIA said stock-clocked and factory-overclocked partner models were available, while its own limited Founders Edition design would be available later in March.

That distinction matters: the RTX 5070 launched as a product family on March 5, but NVIDIA did not say its Founders Edition was available that day. A contemporaneous Tom’s Hardware report published March 4, 2025 also described the Founders Edition as arriving later in the month.
When was the Founders Edition supposed to be available?
NVIDIA’s wording was “later in March.” The March 5 announcement did not provide a specific release date, explain the timing, or state how many cards would be available. The announcement establishes the planned window, not the eventual date on which units went on sale.

How did the launch timing compare with NVIDIA’s earlier announcement?
On January 6, 2025, NVIDIA said desktop RTX 5070 availability would start in February and announced a $549 starting price. That was the company’s advance announcement for the desktop card; it should not be read as a current retail price or as proof of the Founders Edition’s transaction price. The January announcement supplied the earlier schedule, while the March 5 post gave the launch-day distinction between partner cards and the Founders Edition.

On launch day, the available route described by NVIDIA was a partner card from an add-in-card maker; the Founders Edition had a later-in-March availability window. The specific card, retailer, region, and purchase date matter when comparing availability and price. Partner models may differ in cooler and physical design, but NVIDIA’s announcement does not establish a like-for-like performance comparison or current stock and pricing.
NVIDIA has an official RTX 5070 Founders Edition product page, but the page alone does not establish present-day inventory, price, or regional availability. Check a retailer’s current listing for those details rather than relying on the historical launch announcements.
