Gears of War: E-Day reached 31,517 concurrent players on Steam on October 7, 2026, the day after its public launch. That peak does not support calling the game a Steam launch flop, although it cannot tell us how many copies sold or how much revenue the game earned. And while a PS5 port may be something players want, Xbox has not announced one.
What E-Day’s Steam launch numbers actually show
SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 31,517 concurrent players on October 7, 2026, the day after the worldwide public launch. That is the number of people playing on Steam at the same time at the peak—not the number of people who bought the game or played it over the full launch period. SteamDB’s chart is a useful snapshot of Steam activity, but it cannot establish sales, revenue, or the game’s total audience across platforms.

The SteamDB snapshot accessed October 7 also showed 3,474 reviews, with 76.7% positive and a 74.57% SteamDB rating. Reviews and concurrent players describe different things, and both figures can change. Neither is a substitute for published sales data, which is not established by the sources available here.
Early Access was not the public launch
Premium Edition players and qualifying Game Pass subscribers received Early Access beginning October 1, 2026, at 15:00 UTC. Windows Central reported around 20,000 concurrent Steam users during that period. The worldwide public launch followed on October 6 at 15:00 UTC. The October 1 figure is Early Access context, not the public-launch peak. Windows Central’s pre-launch report also described the game as the top-selling Steam game in the United States before public release; that ranking does not disclose revenue or unit sales.

Why Steam activity cannot settle whether the game succeeded
A concurrent-player peak is a point-in-time count, not a commercial verdict. It does not reveal how many copies were sold, how many people played through Game Pass, or how many players were active on Xbox and other PC storefronts. E-Day launched on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC as well as Steam, and it is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Steam therefore captures only one route into the game. Xbox’s product page lists its platforms and Game Pass availability.
Windows Central noted that Game Pass could be one reason some players might not buy the game on Steam. That is a possible factor, not a measured explanation for the player count. Without sales or revenue figures—and without a defined benchmark for what counts as a “flop”—the most supportable conclusion is narrower: Steam’s observed launch activity does not justify that label, but it also cannot prove commercial success.

Is Gears of War: E-Day coming to PS5?
No PS5 version or port was announced in Xbox’s October 1 launch materials or on its E-Day product page. Those official listings name Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, including Steam. Windows Central described the announced console lineup as Xbox-only in its June 7, 2026 report, but that is a report about the lineup announced at the time—not proof that a future PS5 release is impossible. Windows Central’s report does not establish an internal port plan, a release window, or a decision never to bring the game to PS5.

So “Get that PS5 port ready” is a reasonable opinion or request, not a description of a confirmed project. Players who want to play now can find E-Day on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam; Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass are also access options. No hardware-performance comparison between those versions is established here.

What players are getting at launch
Developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios, Gears of War: E-Day is an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges. Xbox’s official materials describe a solo campaign, two-player split-screen, online co-op for up to four players, Horde Siege PvE, and Versus PvP.
