When does Gears of War: E-Day launch, and where can you play it?
Xbox announced that Early Access began October 1, 2026, ahead of the full release on October 6. The game is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. Xbox also announced day-one availability with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. These dates and platforms come from Xbox’s September 17 launch announcement.

The story is a prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust first emerge, according to the Steam listing and Xbox’s game page.

The available critic coverage is review-in-progress, not a settled verdict on the complete game. GamesRadar’s October 1 review-in-progress praised the campaign as a return to form and highlighted its industrial city setting and presentation. The reviewer said multiplayer elements were not yet fully available for evaluation. GamesRadar’s review-in-progress also describes a campaign playable by one to four players.

What is known about layoffs at The Coalition?
PC Gamer reported that story director Juan Vaca announced he was looking for work after Microsoft cuts, shortly after E-Day went gold. The reported departure is a concrete staffing development; it does not by itself show that the entire team or studio was cut. PC Gamer’s report covers Vaca’s situation.

That is reporting about employee fears, not confirmation that another round was scheduled or took place. The available reports establish neither a future layoff count nor a proven link between cuts and bonus policy.

Studio head Mike Crump said in Xbox’s September 17 announcement that the game had “officially gone gold,” a development milestone ahead of launch. That statement is not evidence about whether staffing is secure. Xbox’s announcement contains the quote and launch details.

Xbox announced a Collector’s Edition, but the cited announcements do not establish its current regional price or stock. The same applies to territory-specific prices for the standard game. Check the relevant storefront for current availability rather than assuming a particular retailer has it in stock. Xbox’s Collector’s Edition announcement describes the announced edition.
