Gears of War: E-Day is playable now for eligible early-access customers. When does Gears of War: E-Day come out?
Early access began October 1, 2026, at 8 a.m. Pacific Time (15:00 UTC). As of October 3, early access is underway. The general launch is set for October 6 at the same time, according to Xbox Wire’s October 1 launch update. That means the game has arrived for some players, but general availability is still ahead.

Is Gears of War: E-Day on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes. Xbox lists E-Day for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass beginning October 6, the general launch date. A standard Game Pass subscription does not, by itself, provide early access. To play before October 6, Xbox says players need the Premium Edition or a Game Pass membership with the Premium Upgrade.

What is Gears of War: E-Day about?
E-Day is a prequel set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. Young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago face the first emergence of the Locust Horde from beneath Sera. The campaign follows Bravo Squad in the fictional city of Kalona during the first three days of the invasion, tracing both the beginning of the Locust War and Marcus and Dom’s bond.
How does the gameplay and multiplayer work?
The Coalition describes a return to cover-based combat with added movement and routes through a more connected city environment. Its announced features include smoother cover transitions, sliding, jumping, rooftop and balcony traversal, destructible cover, and opportunities for squads to flank. The game was rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5; these are developer descriptions, not independent performance findings.

Campaign play is available solo, in two-player split-screen on console, or online with up to four players. Multiplayer includes Horde Siege PvE and Versus PvP. The Coalition describes Horde Siege as a 12-player mode in which three squads defend parts of Kalona, and Versus as classic-style 4v4. These are announced design details.
Can I play Gears of War: E-Day on PC?
Yes. Xbox lists Windows PC and Steam alongside Xbox Series X|S. Xbox says final PC specifications were published and that the specifications image was updated September 28, 2026, but the CPU, GPU, memory, and storage figures are not stated in the available text. Check the official Xbox product page for the current requirements before installing or buying; this article does not infer hardware recommendations.

Because early access is already in progress, it is a current benefit only if you can use it before the October 6 general launch. If you are content to wait until then, Xbox’s listed Game Pass routes avoid buying a separate copy, subject to your subscription and regional availability.
What is in the Collector’s Edition?
The Coalition announced an Xbox Series X Collector’s Edition with the Premium Edition on disc, a 15-inch statue, SteelBook, replica COG tags, replica photograph, and art print. The June announcement said preorders were available through the Xbox Game Studios Shop and selected retailers, in limited quantities and depending on region.
