Garmin skin-temperature tracking shows how your overnight readings vary from your personal baseline; it is not a core body-temperature or fever reading. To see the average nightly deviation, use a compatible Garmin device as your primary wearable and wear it to sleep for at least three nights. In Garmin Connect, open More > Health Stats > Sleep.
What Garmin skin-temperature tracking shows
On compatible devices, Garmin records skin-temperature changes during your sleep window. Garmin Connect can then show your average nightly deviation from a personal normal baseline. Garmin says the baseline becomes more accurate as you wear the device for more nights; the metric is best read as a personal trend, not a clinical temperature measurement. Garmin’s skin-temperature feature guidance does not provide a diagnostic threshold or clinical-accuracy figure for the reading.
Garmin says changes may be related to activity, illness, and other factors. A change on its own cannot identify the cause, and a single reading should not be used to infer illness or fertility status.

This is not an exhaustive compatibility table. Check your exact model against Garmin’s maintained feature page before relying on the feature. Not every Garmin watch supports skin-temperature tracking.
How to view your skin-temperature data
- Set the supported device as your primary wearable. Garmin says skin-temperature changes will not display if the device is not set as primary in Garmin Connect.
- Wear it to sleep for at least three nights. Garmin gives this as the minimum before the average nightly deviation appears. Continued overnight wear helps build the personal baseline.
- Open Garmin Connect. Tap More in the lower-right corner, then choose Health Stats > Sleep.
- Check the watch, if supported. Some compatible watches offer the metric through the Health Status glance. Make sure that glance is enabled and available on your device.
Garmin also describes Health Status in the app or website under More/menu > Health Stats > Health Status. See Garmin’s Health Status support page for that feature’s viewing options.

Why skin-temperature data may be missing
Check the requirements in this order:
- Exact model: Confirm that Garmin lists your device as compatible; a Garmin watch is not automatically supported.
- Primary wearable: Confirm the supported watch or band is selected as the primary device in Garmin Connect.
- Sleep wear: Make sure you wore it during at least three sleep periods. The average nightly deviation may not appear before that minimum.
- Health Status calibration: If you are looking at Health Status rather than the Sleep view, Garmin says it takes about 3–4 weeks of sleep wear to establish typical ranges for its metrics. This calibration guidance applies to Health Status and is separate from the three-night threshold for seeing skin-temperature deviation in Sleep.
Skin temperature is not ambient temperature
Garmin’s tempe accessory sends ambient-temperature data to compatible watches. That is a separate measurement and use case from the overnight skin-temperature feature; pairing a tempe sensor does not enable skin-temperature tracking. Garmin explains the accessory distinction in its tempe pairing guidance.
How to interpret the trend responsibly
Use the deviation as wellness context alongside your own observations, not as a diagnosis. Garmin warns that Health Status data is not intended for medical purposes or to diagnose, cure, or prevent disease or a condition. If you feel unwell, the wearable trend cannot determine what is wrong; seek appropriate medical advice rather than drawing a conclusion from one reading.

If you are considering a device, first check whether you already own a compatible model that can be set as your primary wearable. If you need to compare devices, verify compatibility for each exact model and weigh practical priorities such as form factor, display, and battery life; feature compatibility alone does not establish which watch is best for you.
