Neither Gandi nor IONOS is an evidence-based universal winner in 2026: the right choice depends first on whether you want managed web hosting or a VPS, then on resource needs, location, administration, and the full renewal cost. Their official pages describe different offers, but do not establish which provider is faster, more reliable, or better supported in real-world use.

Start by comparing the same kind of hosting

Gandi Simple Hosting and IONOS Webspace are managed web-hosting products. They are designed to provide website hosting without requiring you to administer a virtual server. GandiCloud VPS and IONOS VPS are different: they offer server-level control, so you must make decisions about the operating system and server administration.

Comparing a managed hosting plan with a VPS on price or raw specifications alone can mislead. Match the service type, region, configuration, billing term, currency, and tax treatment before choosing.

How Gandi and IONOS compare for managed web hosting

Factor Gandi Simple Hosting IONOS Webspace
Published storage Essential and Starter: 20 GB; Advanced: 50 GB; Pro: 100 GB; Business: 200 GB, upgradable to 1 TB. Provider-published US page specifications, accessed October 10, 2026. Gandi plan page Displayed packages list 100, 200, 350, or 500 GB NVMe SSD storage. Provider-published US page specifications, accessed October 10, 2026. IONOS Webspace page
Compute or resource tiers Essential and Starter: up to 1 CPU/512 MB; Advanced: up to 2 CPU/1 GB; Pro: up to 3 CPU/2 GB; Business: up to 4 CPU/4 GB. These are vendor-listed limits, not an independent resource-isolation audit. Gandi plan page Higher tiers list greater access to server resources; the page does not establish comparable CPU/RAM values in the information summarized here. IONOS Webspace page
Email The cited plan details do not state comparable email account counts. Gandi plan page Displayed tiers range from one to five email accounts. IONOS Webspace page
Setup and included features Automatic installation includes WordPress, Matomo, and GravCMS on lower plans; higher plans add apps including PrestaShop and Nextcloud. Gandi describes the service as using dedicated resources. Gandi plan page Advertised features include malware scanning, SSL, a free domain for the first year, and a CDN/performance boost on some plans. IONOS Webspace page
Location stated on the cited page France and Luxembourg. Gandi plan page The cited US Webspace page does not state comparable hosting locations. IONOS Webspace page
Price structure The US page showed a one-year subscription price, including a displayed promotional annual Starter price, and says renewal uses the standard rate in effect on the renewal date. The displayed prices are a dated, tax-excluded snapshot, not a guaranteed quote. Gandi plan page The US page shows one-year term offers and distinct subsequent monthly prices. Prices can vary by location and promotion. IONOS Webspace page
Support as advertised Email and chat support. Gandi plan page 24/7 customer service. The label alone does not establish response quality or resolution time. IONOS Webspace page

When Gandi Simple Hosting may fit better

Consider Gandi if you want a managed website setup, one of its published resource tiers fits your workload, and France or Luxembourg suits your audience or hosting requirements. Its plan page describes automatic application installation and lists CPU, memory, and storage by tier. Treat those as vendor specifications rather than independent evidence about resource isolation.

When IONOS Webspace may fit better

Consider IONOS if its listed NVMe storage, email account allocation, malware scanning, and tiered resources align with your project, and you are comfortable with the complete price after the introductory term. Its US page also advertises SSL, a first-year domain, and a CDN/performance boost on some plans; confirm which features apply to the particular package you select.

Compare the complete cost, not just the first price

Both providers’ displayed prices are tied to region and offer terms. Gandi says its listed one-year price renews at the standard rate in effect on the renewal date. IONOS displays one-year term offers alongside a different subsequent monthly price. The pages are therefore not a like-for-like cost comparison by themselves.

  • Check the current checkout price in your country and currency.
  • Compare the same subscription length and hosting type.
  • Record the renewal rate and when it takes effect, not only the introductory amount.
  • Check whether tax is included and whether any advertised feature is limited to a particular tier or term.

How GandiCloud and IONOS VPS differ

Factor GandiCloud VPS IONOS VPS
Billing and starting price Advertises hourly billing and a starting price of €5.00 excluding tax. This is a provider-listed starting price, not a matched configuration quote; region, tax, and configuration must be compared directly. Gandi Cloud page The cited US VPS page lists plans, but the details summarized here do not establish a directly comparable starting price. IONOS VPS page
Configuration and access OpenStack-based cloud hosting with configurable CPU and RAM. Gandi Cloud page Full root access, with Linux distributions and Windows Server options. IONOS VPS page
Storage Storage volumes can be expanded up to 1 TB. Gandi Cloud page NVMe storage is listed; the cited details do not establish a directly comparable capacity here. IONOS VPS page
Locations stated France is named as a VPS data-center location. Gandi Cloud page US, UK, Germany, and Spain are listed. IONOS VPS page
Network and availability claims The cited page details here do not establish comparable network or availability figures. Gandi Cloud page The provider advertises unlimited traffic, an external connection up to 1 Gbps, and 99.99% availability. These are IONOS claims, not independently verified comparative results. IONOS VPS page

Choose a VPS by workload and administration

For a VPS, compare the operating system you need, the CPU and memory configuration, storage, data-center location, billing model, and how much server administration you can handle. Gandi advertises hourly billing and configurable resources; IONOS explicitly lists root access and operating-system choices. The best fit depends on your workload and operational needs, not simply which page lists more features.

What the available evidence does not show

The official product pages describe specifications and vendor claims; they do not provide an independent, apples-to-apples comparison of page speed, uptime, support response, or customer satisfaction. IONOS’s advertised 99.99% VPS availability figure is not proof that it outperforms Gandi. Likewise, feature lists and resource descriptions do not establish that one managed host will deliver faster sites for your particular application.

For a performance-sensitive project, evaluate the service configuration and location you would actually buy, and seek independent measurements that match your workload. Do not treat a provider’s own specification page as a comparative benchmark.
