In a Hindustan Times Gandhi Jayanti interview published October 2, 2026, actors Pratik Gandhi, Darshan Jariwalla and Rajit Kapur explain why they believe Mahatma Gandhi remains relevant. Their answers focus on humane values, peaceful coexistence, truth, self-reliance and putting principles into practice. These are the actors’ perspectives, not a measure of Gandhi’s influence today.

What the three actors say keeps Gandhi relevant

The Hindustan Times feature connects each actor to an on-screen portrayal of Gandhi: Pratik Gandhi to the web series Gandhi, Darshan Jariwalla to My Father Gandhi, and Rajit Kapur to The Making of The Mahatma. In the interview, they describe different parts of Gandhi’s legacy that they see as meaningful in 2026.

Pratik Gandhi: equality, restraint and hope

Pratik Gandhi points to simplicity, self-control, acceptance, equality, mutual respect, hope and love for humanity. He says that, in light of events around the world, these qualities make Gandhi more relevant now. His answer frames relevance as a matter of how people treat one another and what values they choose to live by.

Darshan Jariwalla: coexistence, non-violence and self-reliance

Darshan Jariwalla emphasizes peaceful coexistence not only among people but also with nature. He describes truth, non-violence and civil disobedience as enduring ideas, and points to Gandhi’s idea of a self-reliant economy, or Atmanirbharta, as one being reconsidered around the world. These are Jariwalla’s interpretations in the interview.

Rajit Kapur: practice what you preach

Rajit Kapur’s central lesson is to align conduct with belief and to fight for truth and justice. He says Gandhi put into practice the idea of being the change one wants to see, and argues that this example matters now. The phrase appears as Kapur’s wording in the interview; the feature does not establish it as a direct Gandhi quotation.

What this interview can—and cannot—tell us

The feature offers three actors’ reflections on Gandhi and his ideas. It does not provide comparative historical evidence or measure public opinion or Gandhi’s contemporary influence. Its value is in showing how these interviewees interpret his relevance: as a guide to personal conduct, relations with others and nature, and the pursuit of justice.
