Buy tickets and plan activities through the convention’s official website or app, then check that event’s current schedule, cosplay rules, accessibility information, and venue policies before you pack. There is no single rulebook for gaming conventions: a badge may not cover every activity, schedules can change, and prop and gear restrictions vary by show.
Do I need a ticket, and does a ticket include every activity?
Check the ticket terms for the specific convention and edition. A general badge does not necessarily guarantee admission to every tournament, panel, or other scheduled activity. The PAX East FAQ says attendees need a ticket and describes activity entry through first-come access, app pre-registration, or exhibitor-managed admission. Check the listing for each activity you want to attend; its entry process may be separate from buying your badge.
Where can I find the schedule and register for activities?
Use the organizer’s official timetable and the individual activity listing. Registration details can differ even within one convention: PAX East advises checking its mobile-app listing for tournament-specific information. Its FAQ puts the answer plainly: “It depends on the tournament!”

Can I bring cosplay or a prop weapon?
There is no convention-wide answer. Read the current cosplay, weapons, and safety rules for the exact show you are attending, including any inspection or approval steps. PAX East directs attendees to its safety policy and weapons-check area; PAX West and PAX Unplugged publish their own cosplay and weapons guidance.
Rules can be specific about materials and construction. At PAX Aus, simulated costume weapons are subject to inspection and approval, and prop arrows must have soft, non-metal tips made of foam or cardboard. If a prop’s compliance is uncertain, contact the organizer or take it for inspection as instructed before entering. Do not assume approval at one convention carries over to another.

What gear can I bring?
Check both the event’s rules and the venue’s restrictions before packing. Even ordinary personal items may be covered: PAX Aus bars several wheeled recreational devices in the Expo Hall, while gamescom says pets are not allowed on the fairgrounds. PAX Aus’s day-planning guidance mentions queue-friendly games, but that is not a universal packing list or permission to bring any particular item.

What accessibility help is available?
Check the organizer’s accessibility page before the event and follow its process for requesting support. PAX East’s FAQ describes medical badges and notes that access to events can depend on capacity. It also says its convention center is wheelchair accessible; that statement applies to the venue identified by PAX East, not to gaming conventions generally. gamescom provides visitor accessibility information on its official visitor page.
Read the current event guidance for eligibility, arrangements, and capacity procedures. Do not assume a particular accommodation or event access is guaranteed without confirmation from the organizer.

How should you compare two conventions?
Compare the policies that affect your plans rather than assuming that similar events work alike:
- Tickets and entry: what the badge includes, how individual activities admit attendees, and the event’s entry terms.
- Schedule and registration: when the timetable is published, whether it is provisional, and how each activity handles sign-ups.
- Cosplay and props: approval and inspection requirements, permitted materials, and any weapons-check process.
- Personal gear: restrictions imposed by both the convention and the venue.
- Accessibility: what services are described, how to request them, and how capacity affects access.
Use each organizer’s current official pages for the edition you plan to attend. Rules and schedules can change from year to year, so a previous visit or another show’s policy is not a reliable substitute.
