Yes—games can combine horror and comedy, but the balance varies. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is a playful ghost adventure; Little Nightmares III leans toward darkly whimsical, “charming horror”; and The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is serious cinematic horror that may become funny when friends play and react together. Choose based on whether you want scripted silliness, eerie charm, or scares with room for player-generated laughs.

What does “horror and comedy” mean in a game?

The phrase can describe different things. A game might build jokes and playful scares into its presentation, make unsettling scenes feel whimsically strange, or stay frightening while the people playing it turn tense moments into laughter. Those are distinct experiences: a group laughing at a horror game does not necessarily mean the game itself is a comedy.

The three recommendations below cover those different balances rather than claiming to be a definitive list of games that formally combine both genres.

Which game fits the kind of mix you want?

Game Best fit What to expect
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Playful ghost adventure A lighter, spooky option with a playful approach to ghosts. Nintendo’s developer interview offers background on the game’s creative approach, but does not formally label it horror-comedy.
Little Nightmares III Darkly whimsical horror Stylized horror with an eerie, unusual charm. A Bandai Namco producer describes the franchise’s style as “a particular and unique type of horror that we call charming horror.” That phrase describes its tone, not a promise that the game is comedy-first.
The Dark Pictures: Little Hope Serious horror to share A more serious cinematic-horror choice. Its publisher describes single-player and multiplayer modes; friends may find themselves laughing at one another’s reactions, but that humor is not a promised feature of the game.

How to choose

  • Choose playful scares: Start with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon if you want a ghost-themed adventure with a lighter presentation.
  • Choose eerie charm: Try Little Nightmares III if you want stylized, unsettling horror rather than a comedy-led game.
  • Choose shared tension: Consider The Dark Pictures: Little Hope if you want a serious horror story and the possibility of funny moments arising naturally among players.

Are there lots of games in this category?

There is no defensible count or popularity figure established for games that mix horror and comedy. The category also depends on what you mean by “comedy”: scripted jokes, a whimsical tone, and laughter created by friends playing together are not interchangeable. Treat recommendations as tonal fits, not proof that a game belongs to a formally defined genre.
