If what appeals to you about I Want to Play the Villain! is working out what each character wants and fitting those needs into a playable arrangement, two useful starting points are Seat Sort 3D and This Grand Life 2. They take that appeal in different directions: one is a clue-based seating puzzle; the other is an ongoing life and household-management simulation.

I Want to Play the Villain! itself is listed on Steam as a theatre-themed logic puzzle about matching actors to roles and rearranging the cast and story around their wishes, ambitions, fears, and favorite roles. It is not described as a conventional management simulator or a game about playing a villain. The full game is currently listed for Q1 2027, while a free demo is available on Steam.

At a glance: which game fits your preferred kind of character challenge?

Game Closest match What you do How it differs
Seat Sort 3D Character-preference deduction and arrangement Use clues about characters’ preferences and behavior to place them according to seating rules. Its focus is casual seating and sorting, rather than rearranging theatre roles and stories. Its Google Play listing says it contains ads.
This Grand Life 2 Managing several characters over time Set priorities and manage a household, with character preferences part of the simulation. It is a broader life-management simulation, not a self-contained theatrical arrangement puzzle. The description cited by MobyGames is sourced from Steam.

These are different kinds of similarity, not exact substitutes. Choose Seat Sort 3D if you want a compact placement puzzle built around clues; look at This Grand Life 2 if you want character management to be part of a wider simulation.

What makes I Want to Play the Villain! distinctive?

The game’s central challenge, as described on Steam, is matching actors to roles and reshaping the cast and story to suit the people in it. The dramatic setting supplies the context; the practical appeal is logic-driven accommodation of multiple character needs. A character’s favorite role, fear, or ambition can affect how you arrange the situation.

  • Full HD Support – All images will support full HD. Experience the never tired and moving story with more beautiful visuals than ever before
  • 5.1ch Surround Sound Support – All music (background music and songs) and some voices support 5.1ch surround sound. Connect a surround speaker system or 5.1ch headphones to your Nintendo Switch, and get wrapped up in the beautiful background music
  • Text Support for Both Japanese and English – Text supports both Japanese and English languages, including the digital manual (voices are Japanese-only). You can even switch languages during gameplay. There is also a “Dangopedia” feature that explains Japanese culture

That distinction matters when searching for similar games. “Managing difficult characters” here means reasoning through competing preferences, not necessarily controlling a villain or running a business, household, or team. The full game is listed as planned for Q1 2027 and not yet available; Steam lists its platforms as Windows, macOS, and SteamOS/Linux. The date may change. A free demo is listed as released August 17, 2026, so players can try the theatre-themed actor-arrangement concept while waiting for the full release.

Seat Sort 3D: choose it for clue-based placement

Seat Sort 3D is the closer match if the satisfying part is interpreting what characters like or how they behave, then putting them in the right places. Its Google Play description presents a mobile sorting puzzle based on character clues, preferences, behaviors, and seating rules.

SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim - Colossal Edition - Nintendo Switch
  • An original game system which forces players to make difficult choices and live with the consequences. Stunning and unique visuals drawn in two different styles of pixel art.
  • Saeko has entrusted you with the role of supervisor. In the day, you distribute items to the little people and interact with them, keeping the group together. However, you are no ordinary supervisor.
  • Each little person has two stats: Health and Appeal. These stats determine whether they will live or die. Give items to the little people in the drawer to manage their stats and make a certain...wish...of Saeko's come true.
  • A soundtrack heavily influenced by future garage and breakcore, composed by the developer himself.
  • Colossal Edition includes physical copy of the game, illustrated inner coversheet, four chipboard standees, soundtrack download card redeemable on computer/smartphone, and holographic sticker.

The trade-off is scope: the described activity centers on seating and casual sorting, rather than matching actors to roles or rearranging modular theatre stories. The Google Play listing also says the game contains ads. The available description supports it as a mechanic-level suggestion, not as a claim that its puzzles have the same depth or structure as I Want to Play the Villain!.

This Grand Life 2: choose it for ongoing character management

This Grand Life 2 is the broader option if you want character preferences to matter inside a continuing simulation. MobyGames reproduces a Steam-sourced description that highlights setting priorities and managing a multi-character household, with preferences influencing that work.

  • Exceptional soundtrack: notable for his work on Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head and the Memories Off series, Takeshi Abo has produced a moving soundtrack which transform this visual novel into a cinematic experience

That makes it a different sort of challenge from solving a contained cast-and-role puzzle. Rather than just fitting characters into one arrangement, you are engaging with life and household management. The cited description is secondary reporting of Steam copy, so treat this as a broad direction for exploration rather than a verified, feature-by-feature comparison.

How to pick a game with the right kind of character puzzle

  • Look for deduction and arrangement if you want to infer needs from clues and place characters in a workable configuration; this is the angle most directly reflected in Seat Sort 3D.
  • Look for an ongoing simulation if you want preferences to feed into longer-term priorities and household decisions; this is the broader premise associated with This Grand Life 2.
  • Check how preferences appear. Explicit clues make for a different puzzle from a simulation in which character behavior plays out over time.
  • Consider scale and flexibility. Cast size, the number of interacting needs, and whether you can rearrange stories or outcomes can change the feel substantially. The available descriptions do not establish comparable figures or feature detail for these two alternatives.
  • Verify platform and availability before choosing. The sources used here do not provide a consistent, comparable set of platform, price, or availability details for both alternatives; check each game’s current official store listing.
