Gamer’s Nexus published a roughly three-and-a-half-hour investigation of the market for restricted NVIDIA AI GPUs on August 17, 2025. YouTube later removed the documentary after a copyright complaint that Gamer’s Nexus and contemporary reporting attributed to Bloomberg L.P. Gamer’s Nexus called the removal censorship, challenged the claim, and the film later returned to its official channel. The removal and return are documented; Bloomberg’s alleged motive is not.
What Gamer’s Nexus investigated
The documentary, “THE NVIDIA AI GPU BLACK MARKET | Investigating Smuggling, Corruption, & Governments”, focused on how advanced NVIDIA accelerators subject to U.S. export controls could reach buyers and users in China. Its subject was the GPU supply chain—not Bloomberg. The film runs about three and a half hours, with official chapter markers extending to approximately 3:26:51.
Advanced accelerators are valuable for training and running AI models, and U.S. export controls seek to restrict access to certain high-performance computing capabilities. The rules do not mean every NVIDIA GPU, or every sale to a particular country, is automatically prohibited. The applicable product, destination, transaction date, license, end user, end use, and any re-export or diversion all matter. Gaming graphics cards and data-center accelerators are not interchangeable categories.

Gamer’s Nexus says it traveled in parts of Asia and interviewed people involved in distribution, use, repair, and modification. The film describes intermediaries, warehouses, resellers, repair shops, and customized cards, including hardware altered after sale. Such a supply chain can involve several distinct acts: a product may be sold legally in one jurisdiction, then illegally exported or re-exported; a card may be modified without that modification itself proving an export violation; and evidence against a buyer or broker does not by itself establish that a manufacturer knowingly helped evade controls.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The documentary’s account of particular participants and routes should be understood as reporting by Gamer’s Nexus, not as a finding by a court or government agency. A GPU’s presence in China alone does not reveal where it came from, who moved it, or whether a specific law was broken.
Export-control context
Gamer’s Nexus published a separate timeline of NVIDIA GPU export controls to place the market in context. The central point is that “banned GPU” is often imprecise shorthand: controls attach to products and transactions under rules that can change over time, and licensing and end-user restrictions matter. A claim that a card was smuggled therefore needs more than a photograph of the hardware; it needs evidence about the product, route, parties, and relevant rules.

There was also separate formal enforcement activity. Bloomberg reported on August 5, 2025, that two Chinese nationals were charged over alleged unauthorized exports of advanced NVIDIA chips. That report confirms that alleged chip-export violations were being pursued by U.S. authorities, but it does not independently verify every route or allegation depicted in the Gamer’s Nexus film: Bloomberg’s report on the case.

| After publication | YouTube took the video down following a copyright complaint. Gamer’s Nexus identified Bloomberg L.P. as the claimant. Contemporary coverage and discussion recorded the takedown: AnandTech’s discussion. |
| During the dispute | Gamer’s Nexus posted a response titled “Our Channel Could Be Deleted” and said it filed a counter-notification challenging the claim. |
| August 25, 2025 | Tweakers reported that YouTube had accepted Gamer’s Nexus’ counter-notification: its report on the counter-notice. |

What Bloomberg’s complaint was about
Available accounts describe the dispute as concerning a short Bloomberg clip used in the documentary, reportedly involving remarks by President Donald Trump about AI or chip export controls. The available material does not establish the exact duration, the precise footage, the rights basis asserted in the notice, or the full legal theory. It should not be described as Bloomberg claiming ownership of the president’s words or of Gamer’s Nexus’ original interviews and reporting.

A news organization can have rights in its own recording, broadcast, editing, graphics, or production even where the underlying event or public remarks are not its creation. Conversely, whether a particular excerpt may be reused depends on the material and context; clip length alone cannot settle a fair-use question. The exact notice and footage would be needed for a more definitive legal assessment.
Was the takedown censorship?
What the word captures
In the practical sense, the documentary was temporarily unavailable on YouTube after a copyright complaint. In a broader platform-governance sense, a private enforcement process removed a journalism project from a major distribution platform before a court decided the dispute. Gamer’s Nexus called that censorship and accused Bloomberg of abusing the DMCA process.

What the record does not establish
The available evidence does not establish that Bloomberg filed the complaint to suppress criticism, protect NVIDIA, or conceal wrongdoing. Nor does YouTube’s acceptance of a counter-notification amount to a judicial ruling that the original claim was fraudulent, unlawful, or defeated on the merits. Copyright enforcement is distinct from a defamation case, and the takedown itself does not show that the claimant opposed the film’s substantive reporting.
The most precise description is that Bloomberg’s copyright complaint temporarily removed the documentary from YouTube, after which Gamer’s Nexus challenged the claim and the video returned. “Censorship” is Gamer’s Nexus’ characterization of the episode, not an independently established finding about Bloomberg’s purpose.

What is known—and not known—about motive
In its response, Gamer’s Nexus raised questions about Bloomberg’s business or financial relationship with NVIDIA, Bloomberg’s previous coverage of GPU smuggling, and its operations or relationships involving China and Singapore. Those points are part of Gamer’s Nexus’ explanation and suspicions, not proof that any relationship caused the copyright complaint.
- Documented: The documentary was removed after a copyright complaint attributed to Bloomberg, Gamer’s Nexus challenged it, and the film later returned.
- Attributed: Gamer’s Nexus says the complaint concerned a short Bloomberg clip and describes the claim as abusive.
- Unverified: That Bloomberg acted to benefit NVIDIA, that NVIDIA directed or influenced the complaint, or that the complaint was intended to silence the GPU investigation.
Neither the takedown nor the successful counter-notification proves a theory about motive. The available sources do not establish that NVIDIA ordered the complaint or that Bloomberg knowingly participated in GPU smuggling.
What the documentary can—and cannot—prove
Interviews, footage of hardware, and accounts from market participants can document what sources said and what the camera showed. They do not necessarily establish a complete chain of custody, the legal status of a specific transaction, or the identity of everyone responsible. Modified hardware may show that repair or alteration occurred; by itself, it does not prove when a card crossed a border or whether that crossing violated a control.
