As of PC Gamer’s October 5, 2026 report, Supermassive’s redundancy process appeared to have resulted in departures, Ninja Theory staff were reporting job losses or risk of redundancy during consultation, and The Coalition had announced no studio-wide layoffs. Warhorse co-founder Martin Klima warned that cost pressure could shift game development to lower-cost regions; he did not announce a Warhorse move.
What is confirmed, reported and still uncertain
The situations at these studios are not equivalent. Supermassive announced a redundancy consultation with a stated maximum of 75 roles at risk. Later reports of completed departures came from employee posts, not a company-confirmed final tally. At Ninja Theory, staff posts described dismissals or possible redundancy while the UK consultation process was still unfolding. The Coalition had made no layoff announcement, despite reported employee concerns and accounts of individual cuts. Klima’s comments about lower-cost development locations were a forecast, not an announced relocation.
| Studio or subject | Status in the October 5, 2026 report | What the number or claim means |
|---|---|---|
| Supermassive Games | Consultation announced; later employee posts indicated departures had occurred | Up to 75 employees were at risk in the consultation. A company-confirmed final headcount was not supplied. |
| Ninja Theory | Staff reported being let go or at risk during consultation | The report did not establish that every affected employee had completed the redundancy process. |
| The Coalition | No studio-wide layoff announcement | Reported individual cuts and employees’ fears do not establish a planned studio-wide round. |
| Warhorse Studios | Co-founder Martin Klima forecast possible industry moves to cheaper regions | No Warhorse relocation was announced. |

In its October 5 roundup, PC Gamer cited LinkedIn posts from multiple former employees indicating that the redundancies had been completed. Supermassive IT and facilities director Frank Tindle wrote that “More than 70 brilliant people are leaving Supermassive: developers, artists, producers, QA, operations and more,” and added, “Any studio would be lucky to have them.” That is an employee’s account, not a company-confirmed final count. The report did not disclose how many employees remained after the cuts. PC Gamer’s October 5 roundup

Ninja Theory: staff reports amid a shifting sale and closure process
PC Gamer’s October 5 account described a changing sequence of events: Microsoft had considered closing or selling Ninja Theory in June; the studio was announced as sold during Microsoft’s July restructuring; and two attempts to divest it reportedly fell through in September, after which Microsoft moved toward closure. By October 5, multiple staff members had posted that they had been let go or were at risk of losing their jobs.
The report emphasized that UK employees go through a legally required consultation period before actual redundancies. Staff reports of being at risk therefore should not be treated as proof that all affected employees had already been dismissed. Ninja Theory gameplay programmer Katrin Mair wrote, “It’s incredibly sad knowing that we won’t get to finish what we were working on. So much care, talent and effort went into it, and I really wish we’d had the chance to see what it could become.” Her words reflect one employee’s response, not an official company statement. Are there layoffs at The Coalition?
As of PC Gamer’s October 5 report, The Coalition had announced no studio-wide layoffs. The report said Juan Vaca, story director on Gears of War: E-Day, was laid off in September as part of Microsoft’s cuts, and that other people were reportedly cut shortly before that. Its account of wider staff concerns was attributed to Eurogamer and anonymous sources.
Those employees reportedly feared post-launch layoffs or a reorganization, and some were uncertain about performance bonuses. One anonymous employee was quoted as saying, “We honestly expected the layoffs to hit us post-release, but that seems to not matter now,” and anticipating “the next wave, or being reorganised under Activision or something later this year.” These remarks describe employee fears relayed through reporting; they are not a Microsoft plan or confirmation of future Coalition cuts. Warhorse’s warning: cost pressure could move work geographically
In a September 2026 interview with PC Gamer, Warhorse co-founder Martin Klima predicted that studios seeking to lower development costs could move operations to cheaper countries. He named Central and Eastern Europe, China, India and East Asia more generally. This was a warning about a possible industry response to cost pressure—not an announcement that Warhorse or another named studio was moving. PC Gamer’s October 5 roundup
