The Galaxy S26 Ultra lasted longer than the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 in Tom’s Guide’s continuous 5G web-surfing test: 16 hours 10 minutes versus 12 hours 19 minutes. That is one controlled test, not a promise about every person’s daily battery life. The everyday choice is just as much about form: the Fold8 opens to a larger screen, while the S26 Ultra keeps a conventional phone shape and supports S Pen.
Which lasts longer, Galaxy Z Fold8 or S26 Ultra?
In Tom’s Guide’s 2026 battery test, the Galaxy S26 Ultra ran for 16 hours 10 minutes, compared with 12 hours 19 minutes for the standard Galaxy Z Fold8. Tom’s Guide describes the procedure as continuous web surfing over 5G. It also reports that after 30 minutes of charging, the Fold8 reached 70% and the S26 Ultra reached 77%. Battery capacity alone does not establish how long a phone lasts. Samsung lists 4,800 mAh for the Fold8 and 5,000 mAh for the S26 Ultra, but the independent same-method test above is the more useful of these figures for comparing their endurance. Samsung Romania’s comparison

Why Samsung’s “up to 26 hours” figure is different
Samsung Mobile Press says, “Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 4800 mAh battery for continuous playback up to 26 hours.” That is a manufacturer estimate from internal lab testing, not a result directly comparable with Tom’s Guide’s web-surfing test. Samsung says its test used a prerelease Fold8 connected to Bluetooth earphones, on LTE and default settings, playing a local 720p video on the main screen. It cautions that actual playback time varies with network connection, settings, video format, brightness, battery condition, and other factors. Samsung Mobile Press’s launch announcement

What changes in everyday use?
The Fold8’s defining advantage is its larger unfolded viewing area. Samsung lists a 7.6-inch, 4:3 inner display and a 5.5-inch, 16:10 cover display. The S26 Ultra has a single 6.9-inch display. The Fold8 can give you more room when you open it for reading, video, or working across a larger screen; the S26 Ultra avoids the need to unfold a device to use its full-size display. Weight, thickness, and carrying
Samsung lists the standard Fold8 at 201 g and 9.7 mm thick when folded; it lists the S26 Ultra at 214 g and 7.9 mm thick. So the Fold8 is lighter by the listed weight, but thicker when closed. Cover-screen use and S Pen
The Fold8 gives you a smaller cover screen for use while the phone is closed, then a larger panel when opened. If you expect to do most tasks without unfolding, consider whether its 5.5-inch cover display suits your typing and navigation habits. Samsung’s comparison lists S Pen support for the S26 Ultra and no S Pen support for the standard Fold8. This distinction applies to the standard Fold8, not the separately announced Fold8 Ultra. How do their listed cameras compare?
Samsung’s comparison lists a 50 MP main and 50 MP ultrawide camera for the standard Fold8, with no telephoto camera listed in that chart. For the S26 Ultra, it lists a 200 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultrawide, and telephoto cameras. These are hardware specifications, not evidence by themselves that one phone takes better photos. Which one fits your use?
- Choose the S26 Ultra if longer endurance in the cited 5G web-surfing test, a traditional single-screen design, or S Pen support matters most to you.
- Choose the standard Z Fold8 if you value the option of opening the phone to a 7.6-inch display and are comfortable using a thicker folded device and a smaller cover screen.
- Compare local listings before buying if price, storage, or included accessories will decide it. The available comparison does not establish a consistent current price or box contents for both models in every market.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra are distinct models. Samsung announced its 2026 Z-series rollout on August 5, with sales beginning August 7 in select markets and expanding globally; availability depends on market.
