The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is a released foldable with confirmed specifications and reported launch prices. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is not officially confirmed in the sources available as of October 7, 2026, so its specifications and price cannot yet be compared as facts. If you need a phone now and want a large inner screen, the Fold8 Ultra is the choice you can evaluate today; if you want a conventional S-series Ultra, wait for Samsung to announce the S27 Ultra before judging its hardware or price.
At a glance: one released phone, one unconfirmed model
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold8 generation on July 22, 2026. Sales of the Fold8 Ultra began in select markets on August 7 and expanded to 106 markets, according to Samsung. The company has not officially confirmed the Galaxy S27 Ultra in the sources available for this comparison. The S27 Ultra figures circulating in October 2026 are reports of rumors, not Samsung specifications.

A large screen that opens from a phone-sized cover display
The Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8.0-inch main display, giving it two distinct modes: a conventional outer screen for quick use and a larger workspace when unfolded. Samsung positions it for productivity and content creation. Its main display is rated by Samsung at up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. That is a vendor specification, not a brightness measurement from an independent test.

Confirmed core hardware, without a head-to-head performance claim
Samsung lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a 5,000 mAh battery, and a 200 MP wide camera. The launch announcement also specifies a 50 MP ultra-wide camera and HDR support in 200 MP mode. TechRadar lists a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 12 GB or 16 GB RAM in its review specifications. There are no confirmed S27 Ultra specifications here against which to score these components, and no comparative performance or camera testing is established.
Battery and charging figures need their qualifiers
Samsung specifies 45 W fast charging and claims up to 27 hours of video playback. The playback figure is Samsung’s stated maximum, not a promise of typical screen-on time or an independently measured result. TechRadar’s review specifications list 45 W wired and 20 W wireless charging.
What is known—and not known—about the S27 Ultra
Weight and thickness are leak figures only
Tom’s Guide reported on October 1, 2026, that an Ice Universe leak dated September 30 suggested the S27 Ultra could measure 7.9 mm thick and weigh 218 g. These details remain unconfirmed and should not be treated as Samsung’s final specifications. The same report cautions that leaks can be wrong.

The rumored price is not an announced MSRP
Tom’s Guide also reported a possible US starting price of $1,400. The report traces the underlying rumor to South Korea, where it described a possible increase into the higher 130,000-won range, and warns that this may not predict prices in other regions. The $1,400 figure is therefore a rumor, not a confirmed US price. Tom’s Guide compared the rumor with a $1,300 reference price for the S26 Ultra; that comparison does not establish the S27 Ultra’s final price.
Other S27 hardware remains unestablished
The available reporting does not establish an official S27 Ultra display, processor, camera system, battery, charging capability, storage configuration, or launch date. Unverified camera and battery speculation is not a sound basis for buying either phone.
Price difference: no confirmed figure yet
TechRadar reported the Fold8 Ultra’s launch prices as $2,099.99 in the US, £1,899 in the UK, and AU$2,999 in Australia. These are launch prices, not guaranteed current retail prices. Check current listings in your country before buying.
There is no confirmed S27 Ultra price to subtract from any of those figures. In particular, comparing the Fold8 Ultra’s US launch price with the rumored $1,400 US starting price for the S27 Ultra would mix a reported launch price with an unconfirmed estimate. It would not be a reliable or official price difference. A valid comparison will require confirmed prices for the same country and comparable storage tiers, using the same basis—such as launch MSRP against launch MSRP or current offers against current offers.
Which phone makes more sense for you?
Choose the Fold8 Ultra if you need a foldable now

Wait for official S27 Ultra details if you want the S-series form factor

Samsung’s July 22 announcement describes the Fold8 Ultra as bringing its “Ultra standard to foldables,” with a larger workspace, upgraded camera system, and performance for demanding creative workflows. That is Samsung’s product positioning, not an independent finding about how it performs against an S27 Ultra.
