If only certain apps fail while your Samsung Galaxy shows it is connected to Wi-Fi, first find out whether the problem follows the phone, the app, or one particular network. Test the apps on another Wi-Fi network, check another device on the original network, then review each app’s allowed network, VPN and Private DNS settings. A Wi-Fi connection icon confirms the phone joined a network; it does not guarantee that every app can reach its service.
First identify where the failure occurs
Before changing settings, compare the same apps and networks. Note which apps fail and any error message they show.
- Try an affected app on a different Wi-Fi network.
- Try another device on the original Wi-Fi network.
- Check whether the affected apps work on mobile data.
If several devices cannot use the original network, investigate the router, modem or internet service first. If the same Galaxy has trouble across Wi-Fi networks, focus on the phone’s app settings, VPN or DNS configuration, software, and possible app conflicts. These comparisons help narrow the cause; they do not prove it. Samsung likewise advises distinguishing failure to join Wi-Fi from being connected without internet and checking whether other devices can use the network (Samsung’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance).
Check whether each app is allowed to use Wi-Fi
On some Galaxy devices, an app can be set to use mobile data even when Wi-Fi is connected. Open Settings → Connections → Data usage → Allowed networks for apps, select an affected app, and choose an option that permits Wi-Fi, such as Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and mobile data. Repeat for each affected app.

Menu names and availability can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung describes this setting as a way to make selected apps always use mobile data while the device is connected to Wi-Fi (Samsung’s connection options guide).
Test VPNs and other filtering tools
If you use a VPN, ad filter, firewall, parental-control app, or work profile, briefly disconnect or pause it and retry one affected app. Change only one thing at a time so you can tell whether the comparison changes the result. If it does, check the tool’s app-routing or filtering settings and contact its provider or your work administrator as appropriate. A change in behavior makes the tool a useful lead, not a confirmed cause.

Review Private DNS without turning off protection permanently
Open Settings → Connections → More connection settings → Private DNS; the path and labels may differ. If a custom provider hostname is set, write it down before making any temporary comparison. You can compare with the device or network default, or ask the DNS provider whether its service is working. Restore the original setting if the test does not help.

Try the low-risk phone and network checks
- Restart the Galaxy and router or modem. Retry the affected apps after both devices are back online.
- Forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network. In the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the network, choose the forget option, then reconnect with the correct password.
- Install available software updates. Check the phone’s software update settings and apply any available update before testing again.
- Use Safe mode if the problem may have started after installing an app. Test Wi-Fi in Safe mode. If it works there, a downloaded app may be interfering. Review recently installed apps and remove only apps you can identify as unnecessary or relevant; Safe mode does not, by itself, identify the culprit.
Samsung’s Galaxy Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps include restarting, reconnecting to the network, updating software and using Safe mode to check for downloaded-app interference.
Reset network settings only after simpler checks
If the comparisons and basic checks have not helped, look under Settings → General management → Reset. Depending on the device and software, the option may be called Reset network settings or Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Read the on-screen description before confirming: saved Wi-Fi information and Bluetooth connections may be cleared, so you may need network passwords and to pair Bluetooth devices again. Choose the right support contact
- Several devices fail on the same Wi-Fi: contact your internet provider or router manufacturer, especially if the router cannot connect or update.
- One app fails across Wi-Fi networks: check that app’s update and compatibility information, then contact its developer. Samsung’s app installation and update guidance may also help if the issue involves updating or installing the app.
- Several apps fail only on this Galaxy after these checks: use Samsung Members diagnostics or contact Samsung support.
Use the comparison results to decide where to escalate; there is no single threshold that identifies the cause for every phone and network.
