Short answer: “One UI Beta 3 ZRK5” refers to a discontinued 2018 Android 9.0 Pie preview, not a current Samsung download. Historical pages use ZRK5, ZRK6, ZRK9 and later ZRL5 labels inconsistently. Before downloading anything, verify the phone’s complete model number, current source build, CSC and bootloader revision. A similarly named ZIP can be incompatible or fail verification.
The beta coverage was for U.S. Snapdragon Galaxy S9 and S9+ variants: SM-G960U/SM-G960U1 and SM-G965U/SM-G965U1. Most owners today should install matching stable Android 9 stock firmware instead of trying to locate an obsolete beta package.

Why the “ZRK5” download needs verification
The historical article associated with the ZRK5 title was updated with different identifiers, including ZRK6 and later ZRL5. Other October 2018 coverage mentions ZRJ7 and ZRK9. That inconsistency does not prove that a ZRK5 build never existed, but it means the title alone is not a reliable package identifier. See the archived coverage at AndroidSage.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSamsung firmware names encode the device family, regional variant and build information. The G960 prefix identifies the S9 family; G965 identifies the S9+. The U and U1 suffixes distinguish U.S. carrier and factory-unlocked variants. The final letters and numbers are part of the PDA/build identifier, not a universal “ZRK” edition.
#1 Best Overall
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a charger and charging cable that may be generic.
- Fully Unlocked: Fully unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US-Cellular, Cricket, Metro, etc.), both domestically and internationally.
An incremental OTA also has two identities: the build it accepts as its source and the build it installs as its target. For example, historical instructions described ARJ2-to-ZRK9 updates rather than a ZIP that works over every Android 8 installation. A filename containing “ZRK5” is therefore insufficient evidence of compatibility.
Supported Snapdragon models

Do not use these instructions for SM-G960F or SM-G965F Exynos models, SM-G9600 or SM-G9650 regional models, Canadian variants, or any device whose product code, CSC or binary revision differs. Exynos beta files use a separate firmware family, as shown in this historical report.

Other reports list G960USQU3ZRJ7, G965USQU3ZRJ7, and transition paths such as ARJ2 to ZRK9. These are historical references from October–December 2018, not confirmation of a live Samsung download. No trustworthy official Samsung URL for a package specifically named “One UI Beta 3 ZRK5” is established here; do not treat a third-party mirror as an official Samsung source.
Check your phone before downloading
- Open Settings → About phone and write down the complete model number.
- Open Settings → About phone → Software information.
- Record Android version, One UI version, baseband version, build number and service-provider software version (CSC).
- Compare the exact model and source build with the OTA’s stated requirements. Also verify the bootloader or binary revision in Download Mode.
- If needed, power off, enter Download Mode using the device’s hardware-key procedure, and photograph the information screen before proceeding.
Stop if the package does not explicitly match the model, region/CSC and source build. A matching Android version or a similar “ZRK” suffix is not enough.
Prerequisites and safety checks
- Compatible SM-G960U/U1 or SM-G965U/U1 device and matching U.S. Snapdragon package.
- Exact source build and bootloader/binary revision required by the package.
- At least about 60% battery, a reliable data cable and a direct computer USB port.
- For Windows Odin work, functioning Samsung USB drivers (official driver page: Samsung USB Driver).
- ADB installed and working for recovery sideloading.
- A complete backup of photos, messages, authenticator data and other irreplaceable files. Sideloading does not guarantee data preservation.
- A recovery plan using compatible stable stock firmware.
Method 1: OTA sideload through stock recovery
Use this route only when the OTA’s source build exactly matches the phone. Historical installation guides document build-to-build packages and separate Snapdragon paths; see TheCustomDroid guide.

- Back up the phone and charge it.
- Download the exact OTA ZIP for the exact model and source build. Do not rename it until you have recorded the original filename.
- Install or verify ADB on the computer, then connect the phone with a dependable cable.
- Boot into stock recovery and select Apply update from ADB.
- On the computer, run
adb devicesand confirm the recovery device appears. - Run
adb sideload update.zip, replacingupdate.zipwith the verified filename. - Wait for signature verification and installation to finish, then choose reboot. The first boot can take substantially longer than normal.
A package for another source build will normally fail verification; do not force it.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallMethod 2: Odin full firmware
Odin firmware is not the same as an OTA ZIP. A complete package normally contains BL, AP, CP, CSC and sometimes HOME_CSC. Historical coverage used Odin 3.13.1; Wccftech’s archived instructions describe separate OTA and Odin paths.
- CSC: generally performs a clean regional setup and can erase user data.
- HOME_CSC: is intended to preserve data when the package and configuration support that path, but it is not a no-wipe guarantee.
Use a full package only when it matches the complete model, CSC family and bootloader revision. Do not combine files from different regions or carrier packages. For ordinary daily use, matching stable stock firmware is safer than an obsolete beta.
Troubleshooting and recovery
“Status 7” or verification failure
- Stop the installation; do not bypass verification.
- Recheck the complete model, source build and binary revision.
- Re-download an unmodified ZIP from a reputable, verifiable source.
- Confirm that the file is for Snapdragon U/U1 rather than Exynos F-series hardware.
- If no exact OTA exists, return to compatible full stock firmware with Odin.
Odin shows FAIL!
Likely causes include an incorrect firmware family, incompatible bootloader, bad cable or port, missing drivers, improper Download Mode, or a corrupt archive. Reboot the computer and phone, use a direct USB port, reinstall the Samsung driver, and verify the model and binary before trying a matching stock package. Do not repeatedly flash random files.
Boot loop after installation
- Enter stock recovery and choose Wipe cache partition.
- Reboot and allow time for the first startup.
- If the loop continues, perform a factory reset only after confirming your backup.
- If necessary, flash the correct stable stock firmware with Odin.
Phone appears bricked
A failed software flash is not automatically permanent hardware damage. If Download Mode or recovery still works, matching stock firmware may restore the phone. Recovery cannot be guaranteed when neither mode is accessible.
Carrier or CSC changes
A U.S. Snapdragon phone may boot with a different carrier configuration while changing update behavior, regional settings or VoLTE/Wi-Fi Calling support. Record the original CSC and avoid cross-region instructions.

Should you install the beta now?
The beta program ended after the 2018 preview cycle, and stable Android 9 Pie/One UI began rolling out in late 2018, as reported by AndroidSage. For normal use, install compatible stable stock firmware through an official recovery/update route. Consider the beta only for archival testing or reproducing historical software, and only when the file’s model, source build, target build and provenance are verifiable.
Do not pay for “premium” firmware mirrors, use patched binaries, or install a tool that cannot clearly identify those four details. Samsung Smart Switch can help with backup and supported recovery workflows, but it is not a way to obtain the discontinued ZRK5 beta: Samsung support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an Exynos Galaxy S9 install this Snapdragon beta?
No. SM-G960F and SM-G965F use a different firmware family and must not be flashed with U.S. Snapdragon packages.
Can ZRK5 be installed over any Android 8 build?
No. An OTA must accept the phone’s exact source build, model, CSC family and bootloader revision.
Will sideloading preserve my data?
It may when the exact OTA path is used, but preservation is not guaranteed. Odin’s regular CSC commonly performs a wipe; HOME_CSC is not a guarantee against data loss.
Does this beta unlock the bootloader?
No. The firmware update does not provide a bootloader-unlock method.
What if a download link is dead?
Do not substitute a similarly named mirror. Proceed only when the model, source build, target build and file provenance can be verified.
