The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X500 Pro Max are premium phones with different strengths on paper: vivo lists a larger battery and a 144Hz display, while Samsung offers two dedicated telephoto cameras and a built-in Privacy Display. Their launch prices come from different markets, so they do not establish which phone is cheaper for a buyer in any one country.

Price difference: why the launch figures are not a direct comparison
Samsung announced a US starting MSRP of $1,299.99 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. vivo’s China recommended price starts at RMB 6,999 for the X500 Pro Max 12GB + 256GB version; vivo announced China sales starting September 24, 2026. These figures use different currencies, markets and configuration conventions, so subtracting or converting them would not show a reliable same-market saving.

For a useful buying comparison, check current prices for the same country and date, then match storage and memory as closely as possible. Include local taxes, warranty coverage and any import costs. Current street prices and a like-for-like price difference are not established by the cited launch announcements.
Samsung’s US announcement gives the S26 Ultra’s launch starting price and general availability from March 11, 2026. vivo’s China product page lists these recommended prices:

Display: 144Hz versus adaptive 120Hz
vivo lists a 6.85-inch, 3168 × 1440 AMOLED panel with a refresh range of 1–144Hz. Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with adaptive 1–120Hz refresh and up to 2,600 nits peak brightness. Its announcement qualifies the screen size: the rounded-corner viewable diagonal is 6.7 inches.
The higher listed refresh ceiling gives vivo the specification advantage for maximum refresh rate, but it does not by itself prove smoother performance in every app or better battery life. The supplied manufacturer figures do not establish directly comparable outdoor visibility, calibration or measured brightness for the two screens.

Cameras: different approaches to telephoto
Samsung’s two dedicated telephoto cameras
Samsung lists a 10MP 3× telephoto and a 50MP 5× telephoto alongside its 200MP wide and 50MP ultrawide cameras. Having two listed telephoto focal lengths gives the S26 Ultra separate camera options for those zoom ranges.
vivo’s 200MP telephoto and optional converter
vivo lists one 200MP Zeiss APO telephoto with 3.5× optical zoom and up to 100× digital zoom, plus 50MP main and ultrawide cameras. vivo says the phone supports the Zeiss teleconverter G2 Ultra for equivalent 400mm reach; that accessory’s regional availability and compatibility should be confirmed before buying.

vivo also says the phone supports 4K 240fps slow-motion recording and 8K native Live capability. These listed modes do not establish equivalent video quality or usability against Samsung. Neither manufacturer’s published specifications here amount to a controlled camera test, so they cannot settle which phone takes better photos or video overall.

vivo specifies an 8,000mAh typical, 7,800mAh rated battery and charging up to 90W wired and 40W wireless. The manufacturer cautions that charging power varies dynamically with usage and safety conditions. Samsung’s announcement says Super-Fast Charging 3.0 can reach up to 75% in 30 minutes under its stated conditions, but the cited release does not state battery capacity.

Those specifications make vivo the clear choice on disclosed battery capacity and maximum listed charging rates, not necessarily on real-world endurance or charge time. No identical-condition battery or charging test is established here.
Software, availability and ownership checks
Samsung: US availability and security-update commitment
Samsung said US general availability began March 11, 2026, and listed storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. It states that the S26 series receives seven years of security updates; that commitment should not be read as a promise of seven years of every Android OS upgrade. Samsung also identifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and claims CPU, NPU and GPU performance gains versus its stated baseline. Those gains are Samsung claims, not independent benchmark results.
Samsung describes its built-in Privacy Display as the world’s first built-in Privacy Display for mobile phones. That is Samsung’s characterization, not an independently verified market-wide finding. It is a distinctive listed feature, but its practical value depends on how and where you use the screen.

vivo: China launch and region-dependent considerations
vivo announced China sales beginning September 24, 2026, and its product page lists China configurations and recommended prices. The available official information does not establish global distribution, local cellular-band support, warranty coverage or software features for other countries. Before importing or buying outside China, verify network compatibility, Google services, software region and access to local repairs with the seller or manufacturer.
Which phone fits your priorities?
- Choose the vivo on paper if you prioritize the larger stated battery, faster maximum listed refresh rate, high-resolution telephoto hardware, or the option of its compatible teleconverter—and can confirm regional support and warranty.
- Choose the Samsung on paper if you want two dedicated telephoto cameras, Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display, a documented US launch and storage lineup, or the manufacturer’s stated seven-year security-update commitment.
- Do not decide by launch price alone. Compare same-market, current prices for comparable storage, and account for local warranty and import costs.
Neither specification sheet proves a winner for photo quality, battery life, display visibility or overall speed. Those outcomes require independent, comparable testing and depend on individual usage.
