As of October 7, 2026, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the only one of these phones with official specifications and availability established. Buy it if you need a phone now and its confirmed features fit; wait if you can defer the purchase until Samsung announces the S27 Ultra and credible comparisons are available. There is not yet a verified S27 Ultra specification sheet to compare against the S26 Ultra.
What is actually known about the Galaxy S26 Ultra and S27 Ultra?
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series in February 2026, with U.S. availability reported in March. Its published specifications provide a concrete basis for assessing the S26 Ultra. By contrast, official S27 Ultra specifications and an announcement were not available in the sources checked as of October 7, 2026. Rumor reports are not confirmation, so they cannot establish the S27 Ultra’s camera, battery, processor, design, or release date.
That means this is currently a choice between a known phone and waiting for verified information—not a reliable spec-for-spec contest. Samsung’s Galaxy comparison page and Global Newsroom are appropriate places to check for official updates; confirm local product details and availability in your market as well.
What the confirmed S26 Ultra offers
Display and privacy
Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. The phone also has a built-in Privacy Display, which Samsung describes as the first built-in Privacy Display for mobile phones. That “first” wording is Samsung’s claim, not an independent finding. Consider whether the large screen and privacy feature are useful for how and where you use your phone.
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
Cameras
Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical and 10x optical-quality zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Optical zoom and optical-quality zoom are distinct terms in Samsung’s specifications; the 10x figure should not be described as optical zoom. These specifications do not establish how the camera performs in real-world comparisons.
Battery, storage, and S Pen
The published battery capacity is 5,000mAh typical. That is a manufacturer capacity specification, not a measured battery-life result. Samsung lists 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, while memory and storage availability can vary by market. The S26 Ultra supports the S Pen; Samsung’s comparison page says the stylus lacks BLE and Air Action support. Check the exact regional configuration and included stylus details before buying.

Do not treat the listed battery capacity or camera megapixels as proof of superior endurance or image quality. No comparable independent S26 Ultra-versus-S27 Ultra testing is available in the sources checked, and there are no verified S27 results to weigh against the S26.

When waiting for the S27 Ultra makes sense
Waiting is reasonable if your current phone remains usable and you are comfortable with uncertain timing and specifications. Once Samsung announces the S27 Ultra, compare official details and, where possible, independent tests conducted under comparable conditions. Look at the parts of the experience you actually care about: camera results for your subjects, real-world battery endurance, performance, handling, storage options, and total local cost.
Until then, a claim that the S27 Ultra will have a particular battery, camera, chipset, design, or release date is unconfirmed. Do not pay a premium or delay a necessary replacement based on those claims alone.

A practical decision checklist
- Timing: If you need a replacement now, assess the available S26 Ultra. If you can wait, revisit the decision when Samsung publishes S27 details.
- Cost: Compare current local prices, trade-in offers, and the cost of the storage tier you want; these can change by market and over time.
- Use: Decide whether the S26 Ultra’s large display, Privacy Display, camera arrangement, and S Pen support matter to you.
- Evidence: Treat capacity and component specifications as inputs, not substitutes for independent battery, camera, or performance tests.
- Fit: Check that the phone’s size is comfortable and that the storage and stylus configuration offered in your market matches your needs.
Check ownership costs and local terms
If you are comparing total ownership cost, Samsung Care+ is one potential consideration: Samsung describes coverage that can include accidental-damage repairs, an extended warranty, and expert support. Coverage, terms, and availability depend on region, so review the local plan before counting it as part of the phone’s value. Current S26 pricing, stock, and promotions also require a market-specific check.
