For buyers in India, the Redmi Note 17 5G lists a larger battery, while Samsung documents an ultrawide rear camera, optical image stabilization (OIS), expandable storage and a longer software-upgrade promise for the Galaxy M47 5G. Neither phone is an evidence-backed overall winner: regional specifications differ, and the available sources do not establish comparative battery life, camera quality or performance. Check the exact model and live price before choosing.
At a glance: the main differences
The specifications below distinguish Samsung’s India listing from Xiaomi’s India listing and, where noted, its UK page. They are published specifications, not results from direct testing.
| What matters | Samsung Galaxy M47 5G | Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Display | India listing: 16.91 cm full rectangle (16.45 cm with rounded corners), FHD+ 1080 × 2340 Super AMOLED, up to 120 Hz. Samsung India specifications. | UK listing: 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED/OLED. A comparison page lists 120 Hz; the captured India specification lines do not establish that figure. Xiaomi UK specifications and 91mobiles comparison. |
| Battery and charging | India listing: 6000 mAh typical capacity and 45 W fast charging; charger sold separately. Samsung India specifications. | India listing: 8000 mAh typical capacity, 45 W wired charging and 22.5 W wired reverse charging. UK listing: 7700 mAh typical capacity; adapter not included. Xiaomi India specifications and Xiaomi UK specifications. |
| Rear cameras | India listing: 50 MP + 5 MP + 2 MP, with OIS listed for the rear camera. | The comparison page lists a 50 MP primary camera plus a 2 MP camera. Confirm the exact regional camera configuration on the sale listing. |
| Front camera and video | India listing: 12 MP front camera and rear video recording up to 4K/30 fps. | Sources disagree by variant: Xiaomi UK lists a 16 MP front camera, while the comparison page gives 8 MP for its variant. Verify the exact model. |
| Processor and storage | The comparison page reports Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and UFS 3.1. Samsung’s captured India listing is 8 GB RAM/128 GB storage and supports microSD expansion up to 2 TB. | Xiaomi UK reports Snapdragon 4 Gen 4; the comparison page reports UFS 2.2. Check Xiaomi India’s listing for the memory and storage configuration being sold. |
| Software support | Samsung says the phone will receive six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates from its first global launch date; Samsung notes policies may change. | 91mobiles reports four OS-upgrade years and six security-update years. That duration is not confirmed in the captured Xiaomi India specification page. |
| Price reference | 91mobiles displayed ₹35,999 during the 2026-10-07 research capture; this is a changeable marketplace-linked reference, not a confirmed official price. | 91mobiles displayed ₹27,999 during the 2026-10-07 research capture; this is a changeable marketplace-linked reference, not a confirmed official price. |
Which phone has the better battery?
On the India listings, the Redmi Note 17 5G has the higher stated typical capacity: 8000 mAh versus 6000 mAh for the Galaxy M47 5G. Xiaomi also lists 22.5 W wired reverse charging for the India model. These figures describe battery capacity and charging specifications, not how long either phone lasts in everyday use; no direct battery-runtime comparison is established here.
Do not apply the India Redmi figure globally. Xiaomi’s UK page specifies 7700 mAh and says the power adapter is not included. The regional difference makes the exact model and sale-market listing essential when comparing battery capacity or the cost of getting a compatible charger.

How do the cameras compare?
Samsung’s India specification lists three rear cameras—50 MP, 5 MP and 2 MP—and OIS on the rear camera, plus a 12 MP front camera. It also lists rear video recording at up to 4K/30 fps. The comparison page lists a 50 MP primary and 2 MP secondary camera for the Redmi, but the available sources do not establish comparable photo or video quality.
Front-camera specifications vary across the Redmi sources: Xiaomi UK lists 16 MP, while 91mobiles gives 8 MP for its variant. Check the local model number and official regional page rather than assuming one figure applies to every Redmi Note 17 5G. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better pictures.

What do the display and performance specifications tell you?
Samsung’s India page identifies a 1080 × 2340 FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi’s UK page identifies a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED/OLED display; the 120 Hz figure comes from the comparison page rather than the captured Xiaomi India specification lines. These listings do not provide a controlled basis for declaring one display better in brightness, color or outdoor visibility.
The comparison page reports a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and UFS 3.1 for the Samsung, and UFS 2.2 for the Redmi; Xiaomi’s UK specification page reports a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 for its Redmi variant. Chipset names and storage standards are not substitutes for testing the exact models in the apps and workloads you care about. Samsung’s captured India configuration is 8 GB/128 GB and supports microSD cards up to 2 TB; check Xiaomi India’s current listing for the Redmi configuration available to you.

Which has the stronger software-update commitment?
Samsung states that the Galaxy M47 5G will receive six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates from the first global launch date, with the policy subject to change. For the Redmi Note 17 5G, 91mobiles reports four years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates; the captured Xiaomi India specification page does not confirm those durations. Treat the Redmi figures as secondary-source reporting, not as a confirmed Xiaomi policy.
What is the price difference in India?
At the 2026-10-07 capture, 91mobiles displayed ₹35,999 for the Samsung and ₹27,999 for the Xiaomi, a displayed gap of ₹8,000. These were marketplace-linked reference prices, not confirmed official prices, and can change with stock, offers and memory configuration. Check current listings for the exact variants before using the gap to make a purchase decision.

What comes in the box?
The captured Xiaomi India listing includes a 45 W adapter, protective case and pre-applied screen protector. Xiaomi UK says its power adapter is not included and recommends an official or 45 W PD-compatible adapter. Samsung’s India listing says its 45 W fast charger is sold separately. Confirm the contents for the actual sale region and retailer; the cost of a separate charger can change the effective purchase price.
