Choose the Galaxy A34 5G if you want a smoother 120Hz display and optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main camera. Choose the Galaxy A16 5G if a slightly larger screen and Samsung’s longer stated software-support commitment matter more. Both are specified with a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery. A reliable current price winner cannot be established from the available UK listings because they differ in age and condition.

This comparison covers the Galaxy A34 5G and the UK-listed Galaxy A16 5G. The A16 family also includes LTE models, so its specifications and support details should not automatically be applied to every A16 variant.

Samsung’s A34 specifications are from its March 2023 launch announcement. The A16 figures are for Samsung UK’s Galaxy A16 5G product configuration, whose page was accessed October 7, 2026.
Which phone has the better display?
The A16 5G has the larger panel at 6.7 inches, compared with 6.6 inches on the A34 5G. Both are FHD+ Super AMOLED screens, but the A34 refreshes at 120Hz while the A16 is specified at 90Hz. A higher refresh rate can make compatible motion, such as scrolling, look smoother; it does not make the screen physically larger. Pick the A16 for a little more screen area or the A34 if the higher stated refresh rate is your priority.

How do their cameras compare?
The A34 5G has a 48MP main camera with OIS, plus 8MP ultra-wide and 5MP macro cameras. The A16 5G has a 50MP main camera without OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro camera. OIS stabilizes the main camera against some hand movement, which can help with steadier shots; the A16 UK product page explicitly says its main camera does not have OIS.
Those specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos. Megapixel counts alone are not a picture-quality test, and there is no independent side-by-side camera test in the available evidence. Treat the lens details as differences in hardware and stabilization, not a definitive image-quality ranking.

Which has the longer software-support commitment?
Samsung announced up to four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the A34 5G. For the A16 series, Samsung announced six generations of OS updates and six years of security updates. That gives the A16 the longer stated commitment, although actual update arrival can vary by model, country, and provider.
For one specific regional model, Samsung’s update log for A16 5G model SM-A166B records an Android 16 update with the August 5, 2026 security patch, released September 7, 2026. Battery, charging, and protection
Samsung specifies a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery for each phone. Capacity figures do not tell you how long either device lasts in your particular use. Samsung says the A16 5G supports 25W Super Fast Charging, and its UK product page states that the 25W wall charger is sold separately. The cited specifications do not establish a directly comparable charging-time result.
Samsung UK rates the A16 5G IP54 and cautions that resistance is not permanent; it also advises against beach or pool use. The A34 launch announcement cited here does not state an IP rating, so these sources do not support a protection-rating comparison between the two phones.

What is the price difference?
A fair current price difference cannot be calculated from the available UK evidence. Samsung announced a £199 UK launch price for the A16 5G in November 2024, but Samsung UK’s cited 128GB buy listing is marked “No longer available.” The available A34 figure is a £164.99 offer labeled refurbished by Smartphone Checker in September 2026. A historical launch price and a refurbished offer are not like-for-like current prices.

Which Galaxy should you choose?
- Choose the A34 5G if 120Hz refresh and OIS on the main camera are the deciding specifications.
- Choose the A16 5G if you prefer the larger display or value its longer stated OS and security-update commitments.
- Compare local listings carefully if price is decisive: match storage and condition, and confirm stock rather than subtracting the old A16 launch price from a refurbished A34 offer.
