GalaxEye says it plans to build a 30-satellite Earth-observation constellation over five years. Reuters reported the target on 8 September 2026 alongside the company’s announcement of a US patent for technology that synchronizes optical and radar sensors. The company’s first satellite, Mission Drishti, launched on 3 May 2026; the reported plan does not include a year-by-year deployment schedule.

What does GalaxEye’s US patent cover?

Reuters reported that the patent concerns synchronizing optical and radar sensors so they can capture aligned images of the same location simultaneously, including under cloud cover and in darkness. GalaxEye describes this combined approach as OptoSAR. The patent number and claim-by-claim scope are not stated in the Reuters report republished by The Economic Times, so the announcement does not establish the full legal boundaries of the patent.

How does OptoSAR combine optical imagery and radar?

Optical and multispectral imagery is comparatively intuitive to interpret, but clouds, darkness and weather can obstruct collection. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can gather data in conditions that hinder optical sensors, although radar imagery may be harder to interpret. GalaxEye’s stated aim is to combine the two kinds of data on one satellite and fuse them in real time, producing aligned imagery for analysis. That is the company’s description of its capability, not a guarantee of uninterrupted coverage or suitability for every use. (GalaxEye about page; GalaxEye Mission Drishti page)

GalaxEye’s mission page describes Mission Drishti as carrying multispectral imaging (MSI) and SAR on the same platform and producing aligned, analysis-ready imagery. Its published specifications include X-band radar and panchromatic, RGB, near-infrared (NIR), coastal blue and red-edge bands. For spatial resolution, the mission page lists 1.2–3.6 m for SAR-plus-MSI, while the separate early-adopter page gives an approximate fused resolution of 1.8 m. These are figures published on different company pages; they should not be treated as identical specifications. (Mission Drishti specifications; early-adopter page)

Has Mission Drishti launched?

Yes. GalaxEye says Mission Drishti launched on 3 May 2026 aboard a Falcon 9 from SLC-4E in California. The company lists the satellite’s mass as approximately 190 kg, its orbit as sun-synchronous low Earth orbit at 500 ± 10 km, and its revisit frequency as four days. These are company-published mission details; a revisit figure alone does not mean every location can be imaged on demand at that interval. (GalaxEye Mission Drishti page)

How many satellites does GalaxEye plan to launch, and over what period?

Reuters reported on 8 September 2026 that GalaxEye plans a 30-satellite constellation over the next five years. The report does not give individual launch dates, annual deployment targets, financing arrangements for the buildout or a detailed constellation design. The 30-satellite figure is therefore a stated plan, not a published deployment schedule. Reuters also reported a growing commercial pipeline involving domestic and international customers, without naming those customers. (Reuters report republished by The Economic Times)

What is known about GalaxEye as a company?

GalaxEye says it was founded in 2021 by engineers from IIT Madras. Reuters reported that the company had raised around $21 million and acquired Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering firm StarOps in August 2026, with the acquisition intended to strengthen in-house manufacturing and satellite-system capabilities. As context for the market, Reuters cited SkyQuest Technology’s estimate that the global Earth-observation market was worth $6.55 billion in 2024 and could reach $20.15 billion by 2033. Those are a third-party estimate and projection reported by Reuters, not confirmed future results. (Reuters report republished by The Economic Times)

How can organizations explore access to Mission Drishti data?

GalaxEye’s early-adopter page invites organizations to discuss use cases and lists co-development, preferential post-launch tasking, beta access, and technical support or consultation. Its form names potential sectors including agriculture, forestry, maritime and fisheries, defense and security, disaster management, infrastructure, climate and environmental monitoring, insurance, financial services, energy and mining. The public page does not establish pricing or final licensing terms. Organizations can contact GalaxEye through its early-adopter page.

Before assessing the service for a specific operation, a prospective organization would need details such as geographic coverage, tasking and revisit availability, processing level and data formats, integration or API support, access terms and service availability. The cited public materials do not provide enough information to compare GalaxEye comprehensively with other providers on those points.
