G.SKILL has demonstrated a 48GB DDR5 kit running at DDR5-9000 with CL44-56-56 timings on an AMD system. The kit uses two 24GB modules and an AMD EXPO overclock profile, but the result is a manufacturer showcase—not a promise that a typical Ryzen PC will reach that speed.
What G.SKILL actually demonstrated
In an announcement dated September 30, 2024, G.SKILL reported a 48GB memory configuration made from two 24GB DIMMs running at DDR5-9000 CL44-56-56. The profile used was AMD EXPO, the memory-overclocking standard intended for supported AMD platforms.
| Item | Demonstrated detail |
|---|---|
| Total capacity | 48GB |
| Configuration | 2 × 24GB modules |
| Data rate | DDR5-9000 |
| Timings | CL44-56-56 |
| Memory profile | AMD EXPO |
| Motherboard | ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 7 8700G |
G.SKILL said the result came while exploring DDR5 overclocking limits with ASUS NitroPath DRAM technology. That wording matters: this was a tuned demonstration on a specific platform, not a universal operating specification.

Activating an EXPO profile can automatically apply a memory speed, voltage and timing set, but whether the system remains stable depends on the individual memory kit, processor’s integrated memory controller, motherboard firmware, board layout and BIOS settings. A Ryzen processor or AM5 motherboard that supports DDR5 does not thereby guarantee DDR5-9000 operation.

- Flare X5 Series, designed for AMD X670 Series Chipset with Ryzen 7000 Series CPU or newer
- Brand: G.Skill, Series: Flare X5, Model: F5-6000J4048F24GX2-FX5
- 48GB kit containing 2 x 24GB modules, DDR5-6000, 288-Pin, CAS Latency CL40 (40-48-48-96) at 1.35V (AMD EXPO)
- ECC: No, Dual Channel Kit, Recommended Use: High Performance Overclocking and Gaming Memory
- Memory kits will boot at the SPD speed at default BIOS settings with compatible hardware.
What the demonstration does not prove
- It does not establish that every 48GB (2 × 24GB) kit reaches DDR5-9000.
- It does not establish that every Ryzen processor or AM5 motherboard can run that profile.
- It is not a gaming benchmark and does not show a measured frame-rate improvement.
- It does not prove that the configuration is stable under every workload or ambient condition.
What 48GB means for an AMD gaming PC
Two 24GB modules provide 48GB of total system memory while retaining a two-DIMM configuration. That capacity can be useful for games running alongside browsers, recording software, creative tools or virtual machines. Capacity and speed are separate decisions, however: a lower-rated kit that runs reliably may be a better choice than an extreme profile that requires manual troubleshooting.
DDR5-9000 describes the effective transfer rate, while CL44-56-56 identifies the primary timing values. Those figures should be considered together with the platform’s memory-controller behavior, not treated as a standalone gaming-performance guarantee.

Can a normal AMD PC run DDR5-9000?
Possibly, but the available evidence supports only the specific demonstration system. To attempt a similar configuration, you would need a matching or explicitly validated memory kit, a motherboard whose firmware supports the relevant profile, a processor with sufficient memory-overclocking headroom and an up-to-date BIOS. Even then, manual stability testing may be necessary.

If EXPO fails to boot
- Power down and use the motherboard’s clear-CMOS or memory-recovery procedure.
- Boot at the board’s safe default memory settings.
- Update the BIOS using the manufacturer’s documented method.
- Retry the EXPO profile, or select a lower memory multiplier and test stability before raising it.
Do not assume that a successful boot means the setting is stable. Memory errors can appear only during long gaming sessions, compilation, rendering or other sustained workloads.

Is the 48GB DDR5-9000 kit available to buy?
The announcement did not provide an exact retail model number, launch date or price. TechSpot’s October 2, 2024 coverage likewise reported that release and pricing details were unknown at that time. Those reports do not establish present-day stock or a current retail listing.
When searching, use the description “48GB (2 × 24GB) DDR5 memory kit” and verify the listing’s exact capacity, rated data rate, timings and AMD EXPO support. Do not identify a generic 48GB kit as the demonstrated DDR5-9000 product unless its model and specifications match published evidence.
How to judge a listing or upgrade
- Capacity: Confirm that the kit contains two 24GB modules, not a different module count.
- Rated speed: Check whether DDR5-9000 is an official profile or merely an overclocking claim.
- Timings: Look for CL44-56-56 if you are seeking the demonstrated specification.
- Profile: Confirm AMD EXPO support rather than assuming another memory profile is equivalent.
- Platform: Check the motherboard’s memory-support list and current BIOS notes.
- Availability: Verify current stock, warranty and return terms because the announcement itself did not establish a retail SKU.
The practical verdict
G.SKILL’s result shows that a 48GB, two-DIMM DDR5 configuration can reach an eye-catching DDR5-9000 CL44-56-56 setting on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero with a Ryzen 7 8700G. It is best understood as evidence of overclocking headroom on that test platform—not as a guaranteed upgrade path, a confirmed product listing or proof of faster gaming.
