A G.SKILL customer says the company replaced an entire open-box 64GB memory kit after one module failed, even though the kit had been bought secondhand on eBay for $150. The exact model was later listed on Amazon for $1,199, according to a September 30, 2026 TechSpot report—but that dated listing was not a confirmed sale price or a valuation of the replacement. The account is one buyer’s experience, not a guarantee that every open-box or secondhand purchase qualifies.
What the buyer says happened
In a September 26, 2026 Reddit post, user Double-South8863 said one stick in the memory kit failed on September 1. They reported testing the modules separately and trying the faulty stick in another PC, while the other module continued to work.
The buyer said they had purchased the kit open-box on eBay for $150 in May 2025. They submitted G.SKILL RMA paperwork on September 8, shipped the kit on September 15, and later received a new package. In replies, the buyer said they returned both sticks and received a complete replacement kit. TechSpot also reported that G.SKILL sent a new kit. The buyer wrote, “I will never buy any RAM other than Gskill for as long as I live.” That is an individual reaction, not evidence about customer loyalty across the market.

Which RAM kit was involved, and why the prices differ
G.SKILL identifies model F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR as a Trident Z5 Neo RGB kit with 64GB total capacity, arranged as two 32GB DDR5 modules. Its listed specifications include DDR5-6000, timings of CL30-40-40-96, and a 1.40V XMP/EXPO profile. The default SPD setting is DDR5-4800 at 1.10V. Achieving the rated profile depends on compatible components and BIOS settings, and G.SKILL warns against mixing separate kits. (G.SKILL product page)

Because the figures are separated by more than a year and come from different sources, their gap does not establish the replacement’s value. Retail listings can also change.
What G.SKILL’s published warranty process says
G.SKILL lists the model’s warranty as “Limited Lifetime.” That label alone does not establish that every owner, purchase channel, region, or type of damage is covered. According to the policy, valid warranty claims should generally start with the original point of purchase during the first 30 days, though retailer practices and location can vary. If the retailer cannot handle the claim, the customer should contact G.SKILL. The company asks customers to submit an online RMA request and wait for approval and shipping instructions.
Return the matched kit together
G.SKILL says: “Include all modules of a memory kit for RMA. Memory kits are tested together to ensure compatibility. Compatibility is not guaranteed if a partial kit is returned.” For a two-module kit, that means following the instructions to return both modules rather than sending only the one that appears faulty.

Plan for shipping and processing
The sender is responsible for return shipping and insurance; G.SKILL recommends tracked shipping. The company asks customers to allow at least 7–10 business days for processing and shipping after it receives defective product with a valid RMA number. This allowance does not include outbound shipping time and is not a guarantee that a claim will be approved or completed within a fixed total period. (G.SKILL RMA policy)

What this story does—and does not—establish
The account is a useful example of one customer reporting a full-kit replacement after buying open-box memory through eBay. It does not establish blanket warranty eligibility for secondhand buyers, prove the company’s decision in this particular case, or show that every G.SKILL model has identical terms. Anyone with a claim should check the current policy and contact the support channel relevant to their location and purchase circumstances.
