Fujitsu’s network-solutions company 1Finity established a wholly owned subsidiary in Bengaluru on July 1, 2026, and has assigned more than 200 engineers from Fujitsu Group’s existing India R&D operations to a dedicated networking team, according to a Moneycontrol interview published October 9. Its immediate focus is optical transport equipment for higher-capacity connections serving telecom operators, data centres and cloud businesses. Further investment and an Indian factory remain possibilities, not commitments.
What 1Finity has established in India
1Finity India Private Limited began operating as a wholly owned subsidiary in Bengaluru on July 1, 2026. The company said the local operation would build sales, support, engineering and human-resources capacity to serve communications service providers, cloud companies and colocation providers with optical and wireless products, software and services. Its announcement named Nitin Mehta as the subsidiary’s CEO and Country Head.
In the October 9 interview, CEO Masaaki Moribayashi said 1Finity had drawn more than 200 engineers from Fujitsu Group’s existing India R&D operations into a dedicated team for its networking business. The figure describes an assignment from the wider group, not necessarily 200 newly hired employees. Moribayashi also said the company intends to strengthen sales and expand its workforce as opportunities develop.
Why AI and data centres increase demand for optical networks
Moving large volumes of data
AI training and inference, cloud services and data-centre operations rely on moving data between systems and locations. Fibre-optic transport equipment lets network operators carry large volumes over fibre links. 1Finity’s products discussed in the interview include dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) line systems and transponders. DWDM allows multiple data signals to travel over the same fibre using different wavelengths of light; a transponder adapts a signal for transmission across an optical network.

That equipment can support links between data centres and cloud infrastructure, as well as connections that telecom operators provide to business and consumer networks. The underlying driver is a need for more capacity and reliable connectivity; it does not mean every AI workload requires the same network design or that all demand will translate into 1Finity sales.
Capacity examples are not a market forecast
A September 2026 1Finity article describes customer requirements ranging from 100G wavelengths to 400G and higher, along with dedicated optical routes. These are vendor-provided service-capacity examples, not independent measurements of Indian demand or a forecast of market size.

- PLUG AND PLAY: Simply plug in optical port and RJ45 port, plug and play with no software installation or configuration needed.
- AUTO NEGOTIATION: Auto-negotiation RJ45 port supports Half-Duplex/Full-Duplex transfer mode and auto-MDI/MDIX.
- HIGH PERFORMANCE: This computer networking transceivers is fully compatible with 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet connections.
- VISUALIZED INDICATORS: Easy-to-view LED indicators provide status to monitor network activity easily.
- LONG TRANSMISSION: For different types SFP modules, the FX port can extend fiber distance up to 12.4 miles(30km) for single mode transmission, extend fiber distance up to 1,800 feet(550m) for multi-mode transmission. But its specific parameters should depend on the performance of the optical module.
What remains undecided: spending and manufacturing
Moribayashi told Moneycontrol that 1Finity has not finalized an India investment commitment. He said the company would consider investment as business opportunities become clearer. He also said 1Finity is open to manufacturing in India, but has not decided to build a local factory. Any manufacturing decision would depend on demand and the business case, including whether to manufacture independently or with a partner.

The interview provides no investment amount, expected India revenue or independently sourced estimate of the country’s optical-networking market.

Optical transport is nearer term than mobile-network expansion
| Opportunity | Timing described by 1Finity | What the interview establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Optical transport for telecom and data-centre connectivity | Nearer term | 1Finity identifies DWDM line systems and transponders as relevant equipment and points to demand from data centres, hyperscalers, AI businesses, cloud providers and telecom operators. No India market-size figure is provided. |
| Current 5G deployments | More difficult near-term entry | Moribayashi said many Indian operators had already selected vendors for current 5G rollouts. |
| 5G-Advanced, 6G and AI-enabled radio access networks (AI-RAN) | Later or uncertain | These are potential future areas. Moribayashi said demand for GPU-based AI-RAN deployments was not yet clear and that 1Finity was still evaluating applications and use cases; the interview also notes Open RAN adoption had not grown as quickly as expected. |
The interview frames optical networking as the more immediate opportunity because it addresses transport capacity needs, while mobile-network prospects depend on later technology cycles and less-settled demand. Moribayashi said the company had seen substantial demand through engagement with Indian partners, but also noted that he had not directly discussed opportunities with some major data-centre companies raised in the interview. That account is the CEO’s characterization, not a quantified or independently verified market assessment.

The move gives 1Finity a local operating base and a dedicated engineering team as it pursues Indian network customers. In the company’s July announcement, Moribayashi described the subsidiary as a commitment to helping customers meet changing AI, cloud and next-generation infrastructure needs. The company also has a broader networking context: Fujitsu and 1Finity announced a strategic partnership with Arrcus in 2025 to offer networking solutions for AI infrastructure, with planned go-to-market activity aimed at network operators, enterprises and data-centre operators. That announcement does not establish an India deployment.
