The Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX2530 M2 is a configurable 1U, dual-socket rack server for virtualization, scale-out workloads, small databases, and HPC—not one fixed specification or performance level. It supports Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors, 24 DDR4 ECC registered-DIMM slots, and three storage layouts. Whether a used unit is worth buying depends on its exact chassis, processors, memory, storage controller, and power supplies.

What is the Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX2530 M2?

The RX2530 M2 is a 1U rack server based on Intel C612 and the Xeon E5-2600 v4 processor family. It can be configured with one or two processors. Fujitsu positions it for virtualization, scale-out deployments, small databases, and high-performance computing. SUSE likewise describes it as a compact server intended to combine performance, expandability, and energy efficiency in a 1U enclosure (SUSE bulletin).

The model name alone does not identify the configuration: bay layout, processor count, memory population, controller, and PSU can differ between machines advertised as RX2530 M2.

Which CPU options work in an RX2530 M2?

Fujitsu documents the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 family for this server, with one or two sockets and options up to the 22-core E5-2699 v4. Check the exact processor support and requirements against the machine’s Fujitsu configuration documentation before buying a CPU; matching the socket alone does not establish compatibility. With a second CPU, confirm that the system has the associated cooling and memory configuration required for the intended build.

A single-CPU setup can be sufficient for lighter workloads and avoids paying for a second processor. Dual CPUs can provide more cores and memory bandwidth, but also raise platform power use and may affect software licensing costs. The best choice depends on the workload and licensing model, not just the maximum core count.

How much RAM can a PRIMERGY RX2530 M2 take?

There are 24 slots for DDR4 registered ECC DIMMs. Fujitsu product-facts documentation lists a range of 8 GB to 1,536 GB, while a later data-sheet revision states a maximum of 3,072 GB. Treat 3,072 GB as a revision- and configuration-dependent ceiling, not a guarantee for any used RX2530 M2. Confirm the system board and supported DIMM types, capacity, ranks, and population rules before ordering memory.

The server’s documented memory-protection features include Advanced ECC, memory scrubbing, SDDC, rank sparing, and memory mirroring. These features and the available capacity depend on how the machine is populated and configured; verify the intended mode and its memory requirements in Fujitsu documentation.

Which drive caddies fit the RX2530 M2?

First identify the chassis. Fujitsu specifies four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays in the LFF version, eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA bays in an SFF version, or ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/PCIe positions in another SFF version. A carrier must match the bay form factor; the ten-position chassis also has PCIe-capable positions, so do not assume all ten accept the same SAS/SATA drive and carrier combination.

Before purchasing drives or caddies, verify the chassis and backplane, the RAID/HBA controller, interface, and any firmware or drive compatibility requirements. A physically fitting caddy does not by itself establish that the drive will work with the installed backplane and controller.

Performance, power use, and noise

SPEC published an overall result of 10,950 ssj_ops/watt for one RX2530 M2 configuration using an Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4. This is a SPEC benchmark result for that tested hardware and software configuration, not a prediction of application performance or a measurement of every RX2530 M2’s idle draw (SPECpower result).

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Actual power draw depends on installed CPUs, DIMMs, drives, cards, workload, and PSU configuration. The 450 W and 800 W PSU ratings are supply capacities, not expected consumption. Noise and thermals are likewise configuration- and workload-dependent; the available published evidence does not establish a universal noise level, typical draw, or temperature for this server. For a home or office installation, obtain measurements for the specific unit under the workload and operating conditions that matter to you.

Is the RX2530 M2 suitable for virtualization or a homelab?

Its one- or two-socket CPU design, substantial ECC memory capacity, and multiple drive-layout options make the RX2530 M2 a plausible virtualization or lab platform. Suitability still depends on whether the specific configuration meets your needs for core count, memory, storage interfaces, expansion, noise, and power. A 1U chassis also constrains physical space compared with larger systems, so check the available expansion slots and installed components against your plans.

  • For virtual machines, compare the CPU core count and RAM actually installed with the workload and licensing requirements.
  • For storage, confirm the backplane, drive form factor, controller, and desired RAID or HBA arrangement.
  • For home use, assess noise and measured power draw for the particular server rather than inferring them from the PSU label or benchmark.

What to check before buying or upgrading

  1. Identify the chassis and backplane. Establish whether it is the four-bay 3.5-inch, eight-bay 2.5-inch, or ten-position 2.5-inch/PCIe version before shopping for drives or carriers.
  2. Record the installed processors. Check whether one or two CPUs are fitted, their exact models, and the support requirements for any planned replacement.
  3. Check memory details. Verify DIMM type, capacity, rank, population, and the system’s supported ceiling; do not treat the later 3,072 GB document figure as universal.
  4. Inspect storage control. Confirm the installed RAID/HBA and SAS/SATA backplane, plus compatibility with the drives you plan to use.
  5. Verify PSU part numbers and redundancy. Fujitsu lists 450 W and 800 W hot-plug options; confirm the installed units and required matching or redundant configuration for the system.
  6. Price the complete configuration. Include any required CPUs, memory, caddies, drives, controller, and PSUs rather than comparing listings by model name alone.

Fujitsu’s data sheet and configuration material are useful references for checking system and PSU options. Confirm that a listed part number applies to the specific chassis and revision before ordering.

Is the Fujitsu RX2530 M2 still worth buying?

It can make sense as a used server when the price reflects the exact tested configuration and the system meets a clear workload need. The published specification offers capable Xeon E5 v4 options and extensive ECC memory support, but it does not establish current used-market value, noise, or real-world power costs. Compare the complete machine—including compatible caddies, memory, drives, controllers, and redundant PSUs—with your requirements and the cost of operating it. Without a verified price and configuration, there is no responsible universal buy-or-avoid verdict.
