The Fujifilm X-T4 remains a compelling APS-C mirrorless camera if you want in-body stabilization, a fully articulating screen, hands-on exposure controls and strong stills-and-video capabilities. But “the best APS-C mirrorless camera” is not a defensible universal ranking in 2026: the newer X-T5 offers much higher resolution and a more stills-focused design. Whether the X-T4 is worth buying comes down to your shooting priorities and the condition-adjusted price of the body you find.

What the Fujifilm X-T4 is—and what this review can establish

Announced in 2020, the X-T4 is an interchangeable-lens Fujifilm X-mount camera built around a 23.5 × 15.6 mm APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor. Fujifilm lists its effective resolution as 26.1 megapixels. It is designed to handle both photography and video rather than specialize exclusively in one.

The X-T4’s standout addition to the X-T line was in-body image stabilization (IBIS). Fujifilm’s announcement called it the first X-T model with IBIS, and rates the system at up to 6.5 stops under specified conditions. That is a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee that every lens, focal length or shooting situation will deliver the same result. Fujifilm’s 2020 announcement and its X-T4 specifications provide the official details.

This assessment draws on published manufacturer specifications and independent reviews; it does not claim firsthand testing. Those sources support the X-T4 as a capable hybrid camera, but do not establish it as the best APS-C camera for every photographer or as the best value at every asking price.

Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless Camera Body - Black
  • Putting stability in your hands: A huge part of creating great photos or videos is making sure you are in the right place at the right time – and that often means making handheld images to get to the heart of the action. X-T4’s state-of-the-art, five-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) provides up to 6.5 stops of image stabilization to make sure that, even in the midst of all the excitement, your images remain steady and sharp. Combine this with the new four-axis digital image stabilizer, and you have lots of room to maneuver.
  • Performance you can rely on: For any serious image maker, having a tool that can be relied upon to perform flawlessly whenever it is required is extremely important. For this reason, X-T4 features a newly developed mechanical shutter that is the fastest and most robust in the history of the X series. Not only can it make images at 15 frames per second, but it is also rated for 300,000 actuations 2. When you combine this with its larger capacity battery that is capable of up to 600 frames per charge 2, X-T4 has the power and the durability to give you the peace of mind that you’ll never miss the perfect opportunity.
  • Find the best angle for your story: When chasing the perfect image, versatility is key, so the last thing you want is to be hampered by awkward angles. The 1.62 million pixel vari-angle touchscreen LCD featured on X-T4 can be adjusted to make it visible from a wide range of positions. This not only gives you a high-quality monitor to frame with, but also provides quick and simple controls when you need them most. On the flip side, there are times when you need to minimize the light and distractions that a screen can create. That’s why X-T4’s LCD has been designed to easily fold away so it is completely hidden from view, leaving the updated 3.69 million pixel/100fps electronic viewfinder to help you focus on the moment at hand.
  • When your story needs movement: The modern image maker is blurring the lines between photography and videography, and X-T4 has been designed to celebrate this new generation of hybrid creativity. With the simple flick of a switch, movie mode is activated, meaning X-T4 is capable of recording both professional-level DCI 4K/60p and Full HD/240p super slow-motion video. It is also possible to record F-Log footage in 10-bit color, straight to the card. What’s more, the innovative AF-C subject tracking works in low-light conditions down to -6EV and the camera’s use of a new, high capacity battery lets you push your creative limits.
  • Powerful image manipulation made easy: For over 85 years, Fujifilm has produced photographic films that have been used by some of the world’s best-known moviemakers to create some of the world’s most successful movies. This legendary reputation in color science is celebrated with their hugely popular selection of Film Simulations, which digitize some of the industry’s most iconic films and puts them right at your fingertips. X-T4 introduces Eterna Bleach Bypass, the newest addition to this much-loved collection of film simulation modes available in the X Series product line, which creates a beautiful de-saturated, high-contrast look that any image-maker will find irresistible.

How well does the X-T4 handle photography?

The X-T4 combines a 26.1 MP sensor with physical exposure controls and a burst rate that remains useful for action. DPReview reports mechanical continuous shooting at up to 15 frames per second. Its review also describes the larger battery as an improvement over the X-T3. These are useful capabilities for an all-round body, though a maximum burst rate alone does not determine how reliably a camera tracks a particular moving subject.

Autofocus needs a more measured assessment. DPReview described autofocus as broadly similar to the X-T3, with improvements that vary by subject. The evidence here does not support treating the X-T4’s subject recognition or tracking as equivalent to newer generations. If fast, unpredictable subjects are your main use, compare current bodies using tests for the specific subjects and modes you care about rather than relying on the X-T4’s headline burst speed.

What makes the X-T4 useful for video—and where it falls short

IBIS, an articulating screen and the hybrid feature set make the X-T4 a practical option for handheld video and mixed stills/video work. The screen swings out to the side, which can help when framing yourself or filming from awkward angles; photographers who prefer a screen that tilts without moving out to the side may favor a different design.

Video priorities can point elsewhere. DPReview notes that the Panasonic GH5 offers features including internal 4:2:2 capture and stronger thermal management. That distinction matters especially for creators planning long recording sessions or workflows that depend on particular recording formats. It does not mean the GH5 is automatically the better camera: compare the recording modes you need, expected clip lengths, autofocus preferences and lens systems before choosing.

Is the Fujifilm X-T4 still worth buying?

It can be, if a used body in sound condition costs meaningfully less than a suitable X-T5 or another camera that meets your needs, and you value the X-T4’s stabilized hybrid handling. The X-T5 is the key comparison: current coverage characterizes it as the more stills-oriented successor, and it has a 40.2 MP sensor. That higher resolution gives more room for cropping, while the X-T4 may suit someone who prefers its particular hybrid balance and fully articulating screen.

Do not compare body prices without comparing the complete purchase. Check the camera’s condition and shutter count, what accessories are included, seller warranty and return terms, and whether the price difference would be better spent on a lens or other gear. A low listing price is not necessarily a good deal if the camera has unknown wear or little seller support.

How much should you pay for a used X-T4?

There is no single reliable used price. On October 7, 2026, Cam Scouter showed US listing examples around $925–$1,100. These were asking prices from limited live inventory, not a completed-sale average or guarantee. MPB’s live inventory included like-new examples above that range, illustrating how condition and retailer support can affect the ask. The listing pages can change quickly, so treat each figure as a dated snapshot rather than a stable market value. See Cam Scouter’s X-T4 price comparison and DPReview’s X-T4/X-T5 comparison for their page-specific listings and comparison.

  • Ask for the shutter count and clear photos of the sensor area, screen, ports, control dials and battery compartment.
  • Confirm which battery, charger, caps and other accessories are included; price replacements into your comparison.
  • Read the seller’s condition grading, return policy and warranty terms before treating two listings as comparable.
  • Compare the total cost with an X-T5 or another suitable body, not just the X-T4’s headline asking price.

What to check before buying or expanding the system

The X-T4 uses Fujifilm’s NP-W235 battery and SD-family memory cards. Fujifilm lists the VG-XT4 vertical battery grip as compatible. For video, verify that a card’s capacity and speed rating suit the recording mode you intend to use, using the manufacturer’s compatibility information rather than assuming any SD card will suffice. Fujifilm’s VG-XT4 compatibility page identifies the grip; the official specification page covers camera details.

Remember that a body is only part of the system. X-mount lenses determine focal length, aperture and much of the kit’s cost. Choose based on the subjects and working distances you photograph, and include the lens budget when deciding whether a used X-T4 is good value. A guide to lenses for the Fujifilm X-T4 offers a starting point for comparing options.

Verdict: a strong hybrid choice, not a timeless “best”

The X-T4 still makes sense for photographers and creators who want stabilization in the body, an articulating screen, physical controls and a balanced stills/video feature set. Its case weakens if you need the X-T5’s higher resolution, prioritize newer autofocus capabilities, or want video features better matched to long recording sessions. In 2026, judge the X-T4 by the actual used camera, seller terms and price gap—not by an old superlative.
