The Fujifilm X half is the retro-inspired compact camera in question, and its Ver. 2.00 firmware update adds a SOFT GLOW filter, 12- and 24-frame Film Camera Mode roll options, and responsiveness improvements. Fujifilm’s global support listing dates the update to September 30, 2026; existing X half owners can get the new features through firmware rather than buying a different camera.
What Fujifilm X half firmware Ver. 2.00 adds
Fujifilm’s global X half firmware listing identifies Ver. 2.00 as dated September 30, 2026. Its change summary names three practical changes: a new SOFT GLOW filter function, new shorter roll lengths in Film Camera Mode, and improved camera responsiveness.
- SOFT GLOW: Adds a filter intended to give images a softer, more diffused look.
- 12- and 24-frame rolls: Adds two shorter choices to Film Camera Mode.
- Faster operation: Fujifilm says startup is faster and autofocus times are shorter. Digital Camera World also reports less delay between shots.
The change log describes improvements, not measured performance gains. It does not quantify how much faster the camera starts or focuses, and the report does not establish that every focusing situation will improve by the same amount.

How SOFT GLOW differs from halation
SOFT GLOW is a filter effect, not a new sensor or lens mode. Digital Camera World describes it as a diffusion-like treatment that softens highlights and creates a glow. The publication distinguishes this from halation, which it characterizes as a warmer glow associated with light scattering on film: SOFT GLOW aims for softer-lens rendering without the same warm tones. Fujifilm’s brief firmware listing confirms the filter was added but does not provide that technical comparison.

Film Camera Mode now offers shorter simulated rolls
Fujifilm’s 2025 launch announcement described Film Camera Mode as a way to select a Film Simulation and roll size, then advance the frame lever after each picture. The original choices were 36, 54, and 72 exposures; Ver. 2.00 adds 12 and 24. A shorter simulated roll can be completed sooner, allowing a photographer to begin another roll with a different selected setup. It does not change the camera’s sensor or physical film capacity—the X half is a digital camera.
| Film Camera Mode roll length | Availability | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|
| 12 frames | Added in Ver. 2.00 | Shortest option; reach the end of a simulated roll sooner. |
| 24 frames | Added in Ver. 2.00 | Shorter than the original choices, but longer than 12 frames. |
| 36 frames | Available at launch | One of the original roll-length choices. |
| 54 frames | Available at launch | One of the original roll-length choices. |
| 72 frames | Available at launch | Longest of the original roll-length choices. |
Digital Camera World reports that Film Camera Mode disables previews and locks settings, giving the process a more screen-free, committed feel. That operating detail is from the publication’s account; Fujifilm’s short firmware change listing does not describe it.

Which camera received the update?
This is the Fujifilm X half, not an X100-series model. FUJIFILM Americas introduced the X half in May 2025 as a compact digital camera inspired by half-frame film cameras. Its launch announcement specified a 1-inch back-illuminated sensor, a fixed 10.8mm F2.8 lens with a 32mm-equivalent field of view, 13 Film Simulations, a vertical 3:4 rear screen, and an optical viewfinder. Those are launch specifications; Ver. 2.00 adds software features and does not change the hardware.

Fujifilm’s announcement also listed selected instax Link printers for smartphone-app printing, but says images made in Film Camera Mode cannot be printed directly through the X half to an instax Link printer. That limitation matters if printing completed Film Camera Mode rolls is part of the appeal.

What owners should know before updating
Firmware availability can vary by regional support page. The global Fujifilm listing dates Ver. 2.00 to September 30, 2026; check Fujifilm’s support page for your region and follow its current installation instructions before updating. The update’s listed changes are software additions and responsiveness improvements for X half owners, not a reason to replace the camera.
