Yann Goarin joined AAXIS as Founder in Residence in October 2025 to help develop AI-native ventures for industrial businesses, starting with building materials. The available sources do not substantiate the title’s “trillion-dollar opportunity” as a market-size estimate, so it should not be treated as a verified figure. What they do describe is a concrete challenge: helping building-materials sellers make complex products, contract pricing and inventory easier to find and buy through digital channels.

What Goarin’s AAXIS role involves

SalesTechStar reported on October 7, 2025, that Goarin joined AAXIS as Founder in Residence. The announcement said he would lead the exploration, validation and scaling of AI-native ventures for industrial enterprises, with building materials as the first target. It also described him as having spent more than 10 years at Google and YouTube and having launched and grown more than 20 products. Those career details are claims made in the appointment announcement, not independently verified biography.

AAXIS CEO and founder Asad Durrani said in the announcement that Goarin’s product-development and go-to-market experience would complement the company’s technical capabilities and industry relationships. The announcement presents the role as venture development, rather than the launch of a named consumer AI product.

Why building-materials sales can be difficult to digitize

AAXIS describes an industry where customers may need a fast quote, but the relevant contract or volume price sits in a system that does not display it in real time. Product information can also be inconsistent: one SKU may have different descriptions in catalogues, back-office systems and online storefronts. These issues make it harder for buyers to identify the right item, understand its price and complete an order without contacting a representative.

Four workflow problems AAXIS identifies

  • Quote friction: Contract and volume pricing may not be available to buyers immediately through digital channels.
  • Inconsistent product data: The same SKU may be described differently across systems, complicating search and product matching.
  • Dealer portals that miss the buying process: A portal may exist but still fail to reflect how dealers and contractors select and order materials, prompting customers to call.
  • Legacy-system constraints: Existing systems of record may remain in use, even when the customer-facing experience built on top of them needs improvement.

AAXIS lists B2B commerce, B2B product intelligence, enterprise-system integration and applied AI among its capabilities for this market. In practical terms, the work described is about connecting product information, pricing, inventory and ordering to purchasing workflows, rather than replacing every underlying business system.

What AAXIS reports in its UFP Industries case study

AAXIS says its UFP Industries implementation serves more than 1,800 independent retailers. The company says retailers can view their own contract pricing and live stock and configure truck loading online, without calling a representative. AAXIS also reports that the system automated up to 95% of manual order entry and reduced sales administrative workload by 30%.

These are AAXIS-reported case-study results, not independently audited benchmarks. The case-study page does not provide a detailed measurement methodology or publication date, so the percentages should be read as claims about this implementation—not as expected results for other distributors or a general measure of AI’s impact.

Is AI’s opportunity in legacy industries really worth a trillion dollars?

The available sources do not establish a trillion-dollar market estimate: they provide no defined market, calculation method, publishing organization or year attached to that figure. The phrase in the original title therefore cannot be presented as a verified statistic. A more defensible description is that AAXIS is pursuing a specific enterprise opportunity: improving digital commerce and related workflows in an industry with complex products, negotiated pricing, fragmented data and established systems.

That distinction matters. A company’s plans and one vendor-reported case study can illustrate a use case, but they do not measure the size of the addressable market or prove that AI alone produced the reported operational changes. To assess any future claim about the opportunity, readers would need a defined market scope and a transparent methodology, as well as independently measured outcomes across deployments.

What to watch as the venture develops

The most useful tests of this approach are operational. A future account of the venture would be stronger if it explained how it handles contract pricing and live inventory, reconciles inconsistent product records, fits the purchasing habits of dealers and contractors, and integrates with systems that companies intend to keep. It should also clarify whether reported improvements in order entry and administrative work are measured against a stated baseline and over a defined period.

For now, the public material supports a focused story about AAXIS’s industrial-commerce ambitions and the workflows it says it is addressing. It does not include a direct interview with Goarin or verify the headline’s market-size framing.
