Without the original note, that discrepancy cannot be resolved; the reports consistently give the new rating as Buy and the new target as $51.
Why the rating reportedly improved despite business pressure
Investing.com says the upgrade came after weaker-than-expected NIKE Q1 FY2027 revenue, a sharp deterioration in Greater China and continued pressure across EMEA. Its account also says management acknowledged further work was needed across NIKE Sportswear, Jordan Brand and Greater China. The reports place the call in the context of Nike’s Pace initiative, described as an operating-model transformation intended to accelerate its Sport Offense strategy, improve productivity and simplify the global organization. StreetInsider reproduced additional figures from analyst commentary: roughly $2.5 billion in cumulative savings through FY2031, about $1.0 billion in pretax implementation charges through FY2031, approximately $0.3 billion in severance costs recognized in FY2026 and another $0.3 billion of charges expected in FY2027. These figures are reported through StreetInsider and have not been independently confirmed here against Nike filings.
Why a Buy rating can come with a lower target
A rating and a price target answer different questions. The rating places a stock into a recommendation category; a target expresses an analyst’s estimate of a future price under particular assumptions and over a particular horizon. A broker can become more positive about the risk-reward or outlook relative to its prior view while also reducing its estimate of value. In this case, the reported rating moved up while the target moved down.

The available coverage does not establish Freedom Broker’s valuation method, target horizon or forecast assumptions, so it does not explain precisely how the analyst reconciled those two changes. It also does not provide a reliable contemporaneous share-price comparison or consensus benchmark.
