You do not need a list of 23 driver updaters to update Windows 11 safely. Start with Windows Update, then use the official utility or download page for the maker of the hardware that needs attention. The available evidence does not establish 23 comparable, currently free general-purpose tools, so this guide focuses on the supported routes and explains how several advertised third-party offers differ.
Which free driver updater should you use?
For most PCs, use Windows Update first. It supplies recommended drivers, while optional driver updates are available for you to review and select. If Windows Update does not offer the compatible driver you need, get it from the PC or component manufacturer’s official support channel. Microsoft calls Windows Update the best way to get driver updates and warns: “Avoid downloading drivers from any websites other than the manufacturer’s official site.” Microsoft’s Device Manager guidance explains the alternatives.
Use a component-maker utility only when it supports the hardware in your PC: Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA) scans for supported Intel products, and AMD’s Auto-Detect tool is for supported Radeon graphics and Ryzen chipsets. Neither is a universal updater for every device in a computer.

These are not equivalent “free tools”: Windows’ built-in route and Intel’s no-fee utility differ from products marketed with trials or free and paid tiers. There is no independent head-to-head test here establishing that any third-party updater is safer, faster, or improves game performance.

Update drivers with Windows Update
- Open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Recommended drivers delivered through Windows Update are handled through the normal update process.
- To inspect optional drivers, go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand the driver updates, select only the updates relevant to your hardware, and choose the install option shown in Settings.
- Restart Windows if prompted; Microsoft advises restarting after installing a driver update.
Optional driver updates are not installed automatically, so checking this screen is useful when you have a specific device issue or are following guidance from the device maker. Do not install an unrelated driver simply because it appears in the list.
When to use a manufacturer’s utility or driver page
Intel Driver & Support Assistant
Intel describes DSA as a free Windows application that scans for supported Intel driver and software updates and displays system and device information. Intel says some products are unsupported and DSA surfaces only a subset of what is available in the Intel Download Center. If DSA does not identify your device or needed package, check the Intel DSA support article and Intel’s Download Center. Intel’s article, last reviewed July 7, 2025, estimates about three to six minutes for typical installation, loading, and analysis over broadband; that is Intel’s estimate, not a comparative benchmark. Intel also says DSA collects system and device information.

AMD Auto-Detect and Install
AMD offers an Auto-Detect and Install Driver Updates tool for supported Radeon graphics and Ryzen chipsets on Windows 10/11 64-bit, version 1809 or later. Use it for that AMD hardware scope, not as a way to update unrelated components such as Wi-Fi adapters or peripherals.
PC and component manufacturers
If Windows Update does not find a compatible driver, identify the exact PC model or component and use its maker’s official support page. Match the package to your Windows version and system architecture, and follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions. For laptops and prebuilt PCs, the computer maker may provide drivers customized for that model.

What to know before installing a third-party updater
A third-party updater may be convenient, but product marketing is not the same as independent verification. Check its current terms, supported hardware, and the exact actions included without payment before installing it. Prefer a workflow that lets you review what will change rather than approving a batch of unrelated updates.
- IObit Driver Booster: IObit markets a free version, Windows 11 compatibility, broad device coverage, WHQL and security checks, and restore-point support. Those are vendor claims; matching quality, installation safety, rollback behavior, performance effects, and the limits of the free tier have not been independently established here. Review the current Driver Booster page before deciding what is included.
- Driver Easy: Its official site describes a free trial and says automatic driver downloads and installation are PRO features. Do not treat the trial as proof of a permanently free updater.
- AVG Driver Updater: AVG’s product page advertises Windows 11 support and a 15-day free trial. Trial terms and product availability can change, and its claims about sourcing and verifying drivers are vendor claims.
An IObit-authored roundup describes Snappy Driver Installer Origin (SDIO) as a free offline installer that uses downloadable driver packs and compares it with other products. Because that description comes from a vendor roundup rather than the project’s own current documentation, verify SDIO’s official download source and current project status before using it. Offline packs may help when a PC has no internet access; they are not a routine requirement for an online update. IObit’s September 20, 2026 roundup provides that characterization.

Roll back a driver if an update causes problems
If a problem began after a driver update, Device Manager may let you restore the previous driver. Microsoft notes that rolling back often resolves issues that started after an update delivered through Windows Update.

- Open the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
- Follow the prompts and restart if required. If rollback is unavailable or does not fix the issue, consult the PC or device maker’s support instructions.

Why this is not a validated list of 23 tools
The number in the original title is not supported by a verified set of 23 comparable, general-purpose Windows 11 driver updaters. One directory page surfaced in search describes 23 “game driver updaters,” but that game-specific category does not establish a list of general Windows driver tools or their current free features.
