Far Cry 3 is not currently free to claim from Ubisoft. The offer people still find in search results was Ubisoft’s limited-time Far Cry 3 PC giveaway from September 2021. Ubisoft’s own terms said, “Offer ends September 10th, 2021,” so it cannot be redeemed as a live promotion on August 7, 2026.
The giveaway was for the main Far Cry 3 game on PC Digital only. It did not include PlayStation or Xbox, and it was not the separate Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon title.

Some 2021 reports mentioned September 11 or a time based on the time zone attached to a player’s Ubisoft account. Ubisoft’s promotion page is the authoritative source for the promotion terms, and its stated end date was September 10, 2021.

There was no command-line method, activation command, or special command syntax. The official process was a normal web redemption:

- After successful redemption, check the Ubisoft Connect PC library.
- Install the Ubisoft Connect launcher and download the game from the library.
Once a player redeemed the game during the promotion, it was intended to remain in that Ubisoft Connect PC account’s library after the offer ended. That does not mean the promotion remains claimable for accounts that missed the deadline.
Can you still claim it for free?
No verified current Ubisoft page supports that claim. The old Ubisoft article remains online, which is why search results and social posts can make the offer look active, but its own terms show that it expired in 2021.
Be particularly cautious with pages offering a “free key,” an activation command, or a downloadable installer. The historical offer did not require a command or a manually entered CD key. A page asking for Ubisoft credentials outside Ubisoft’s official domains, or asking you to disable security software, should be treated as suspicious.
What you need if you already claimed it
If the game was redeemed in 2021, Ubisoft’s current product information identifies the normal PC requirements as:
- A Ubisoft account that owns the game
- The Ubisoft Connect launcher
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
Sign in to Ubisoft Connect with the same Ubisoft account used for the original claim. Search the library for Far Cry 3, rather than searching for Blood Dragon. Ubisoft says owned content is automatically added to the Ubisoft Connect for PC library for download once ownership has been established.
Important: online features are no longer available
Owning or installing Far Cry 3 does not restore its online services. Ubisoft’s current product listing says that multiplayer and online features are no longer available. The relevant expectation is therefore the single-player game, not working original multiplayer or other online modes.
Common problems from the old giveaway
Players reported several problems while the 2021 promotion was under heavy traffic. These are useful for identifying what happened historically, but they are not evidence that the giveaway is still running.

A mobile browser was reported as a workaround when the desktop page confirmed an activation but failed to place the game in the library. That was a 2021 workaround, not a current Ubisoft-supported redemption route.
If you already own a Steam copy
A Steam purchase may still require Ubisoft Connect because the PC version uses Ubisoft account and launcher services. Launch failures can show messages such as “We couldn’t verify your access to this game,” “AccountsNotLinked,” or “HTTP 401 Unauthorized.”
Those errors indicate an ownership or account-linking validation problem. They do not indicate a new free Ubisoft promotion. Start by checking that Ubisoft Connect is signed into the Ubisoft account associated with the purchase and that Steam is signed into the purchasing account. If the accounts are correct and the error persists, use Ubisoft Support rather than trying random activation codes.
Bottom line
The accurate version of the headline is: Ubisoft gave away the PC version of Far Cry 3 in September 2021, but that offer has ended. Ubisoft Connect is the launcher and library used to install an owned copy; it is not a permanent free-game program. The expired giveaway did not cover consoles or Blood Dragon, and Ubisoft currently lists Far Cry 3’s multiplayer and online features as unavailable.

Can I still claim Far Cry 3 through Ubisoft Connect?
Only if Ubisoft has already added it to your account from the 2021 promotion or from another valid purchase. Ubisoft Connect is the launcher and library; it does not make the expired giveaway claimable again.
