The best free TimeCamp alternative depends on three things: how many people need access, how many projects you track, and whether you need invoicing, expense tracking, integrations, or approvals. TimeCamp’s own pricing page advertises a free-forever plan with unlimited users and unlimited projects, so a replacement has to beat that on a specific need, not on price alone. The plan details below come from the official pricing pages of TimeCamp, Toggl Track, Clockify, Harvest, and Everhour, checked in October 2026. Free plans change often, so confirm the current limits on each vendor’s page before you switch.

Start with your situation

Match your setup to the first row that fits. Each recommendation names the free-plan limit that matters most.

  • Solo freelancer who bills clients: start with Harvest. Its free plan includes invoicing and expense tracking, but it is limited to one seat and two projects.
  • Solo user or a team of up to three people who want simple timers and planning: start with Toggl Track, which vendor FAQ confirms is free for up to 3 users.
  • Small team of up to four invited people who need basic time capture: check Clockify.
  • Team of up to five seats that already runs its work in a project-management tool: check Everhour, but only after confirming you can live without integrations on the free plan.
  • Anyone whose headcount and project count are both small, and who only wants to change tools for a reason other than limits: the existing TimeCamp free plan may already be the best option. Check its feature table before you assume a paid upgrade is needed.

Free-plan limits at a glance

The table lists what each official pricing page states for its free plan. Where a vendor does not state a limit on its pricing page, the cell says so rather than assuming one.

The alternatives, one by one

TimeCamp (the benchmark)

TimeCamp’s pricing page lists a free-forever plan with unlimited users and unlimited projects. That is the most generous headline limit in this group. The catch is in the feature detail: the pricing page identifies the platform features (web, desktop, mobile, timer, timesheet, and browser plugin) but does not spell out, in one place, which reporting or administration features the free tier includes. Open the feature table on the live page and confirm the items you depend on before you treat TimeCamp’s free plan as a full replacement for a paid setup.

Toggl Track

Toggl Track’s free plan suits a solo user or a small group that wants fast, uncomplicated tracking. Its pricing page describes manual and real-time tracking, calendar integrations, tasks, and boards on the free tier. Toggl also states that it does not monitor employees or take screenshots, which matters if your team has been using a monitoring feature you now want to drop. The trade-off is that approvals, billable rates, and deeper reporting are paid features, so a team that bills by rate or needs sign-off on timesheets will hit a wall quickly.

Clockify

Clockify’s pricing FAQ states that the free plan allows up to four invited people and that users can track as much time as they want. That makes it a sensible option for a small team that mainly needs time capture. The pricing comparison presents advanced administration features as paid, so if you rely on admin roles or controls across the workspace, verify those on the page before moving.

Harvest

Harvest is the only option here that is designed around billing. Its pricing page describes the free plan as built for individual freelancers, with one seat, two projects, time tracking, invoicing, and expense tracking included at no charge. The limits are tight: a second project or a second person requires a paid plan. For reference, the vendor lists paid Teams pricing at $9 per seat per month billed annually or $11 per seat per month billed month to month. The vendor also notes that some feature use may carry fees, so read the fine print before you send your first invoice on the free plan.

Everhour

Everhour’s pricing page states that its free plan is absolutely free for up to five seats. It includes basic time tracking, projects and tasks, reports, and exports. The limitation that matters most is that integrations are paid-plan only. If your time entries need to flow automatically into a project-management or work system, Everhour’s free plan will not do that job, and you will need to budget for a paid tier or choose a different tool.

What “free” can hide

Two free plans can look identical on a comparison table and still behave very differently in daily use. Check these items against your own workflow before you commit:

  • Seat cap: the number of people who can be invited or assigned, not just the number who can log in.
  • Project cap: a team that tracks across many clients or internal projects can outgrow a two-project limit within weeks.
  • Integrations: whether time entries must sync to Asana, ClickUp, Jira, or another system, and whether that integration is on the free tier.
  • Invoicing and expenses: whether you need to bill from the tool or only record hours.
  • Approvals and admin controls: whether a manager must sign off on timesheets, and whether you need admin roles for the workspace.
  • Reporting and export: whether the free plan produces the report you send to clients or accountants, and whether you can export the raw data.

Moving off TimeCamp

Switching tools is easier when you finish the decision in order. The steps below assume you are leaving TimeCamp’s free plan for another free plan.

  1. Count your active people and active projects. Compare those numbers with the limits in the table above.
  2. List every tool your time data must reach. If the list is longer than zero, check the integration rules for each candidate before you choose.
  3. Confirm with the new vendor that you can export your existing time entries. None of the pricing pages reviewed here state import or migration support, so ask the vendor directly before you rely on it.
  4. Run the new tool alongside your current one for a single billing cycle. Compare the totals before you stop using the old tool.

How much weight to give these comparisons

Every figure in this article comes from vendor pricing pages and vendor FAQs, not from independent testing, so treat them as the vendors’ own descriptions of their plans. The comparison does not rank the tools on performance, reliability, security, or user satisfaction. Vendors change free-plan limits without much notice, and the wording on a pricing page can differ from the wording in the product itself. Check the live page the day you decide.
