If you want to watch TV without paying for a Sling plan, start with Sling Freestream or The Roku Channel. Both offer free, ad-supported viewing, but neither should be assumed to carry the same channels as Sling’s paid plans. For local broadcast stations, an over-the-air antenna is another possibility, depending on reception where you live.
Which free Sling alternative should you try?
It depends on what you mean by “alternative.” If you want a no-cost way to watch television from Sling, choose Sling Freestream. If you want a different free streaming service, try The Roku Channel. If you mainly want local broadcast stations, check whether an antenna can receive them at your home.

How to get local channels without a Sling plan
Local broadcast stations are a separate question from free streaming catalogs. Sling says Sling Orange does not include local channels, while Sling Blue and Orange & Blue include some local channels depending on location. The provider suggests an over-the-air antenna as a way to receive local channels where a plan or area does not provide them. Roku also describes using an antenna for local broadcasts.
