For a standard Pinterest image Pin, use a 2:3 aspect ratio—Pinterest recommends 1000 × 1500 pixels for standard image ads and Pinterest Creators gives the same size for images. To resize for free, use Pinterest’s native crop or resize options, or an online tool such as Adobe Express. Crop only when trimming the edges will not remove important content; otherwise fit the full image with margins instead of stretching it.
What size should a Pinterest Pin be?
For still images, Pinterest Creators recommends a 2:3 aspect ratio, such as 1000 × 1500 pixels. Pinterest Business gives the same recommendation for standard image ads and cautions that Pins with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might be cut off in people’s feeds. That is a possibility, not a guarantee that every taller image will be truncated. See Pinterest’s standard image ad specifications and Pinterest Creators’ image guidance.
Video has a different recommended size: Pinterest Creators recommends 9:16, or 1080 × 1920 pixels. Do not apply the still-image target to video.

For standard image ads, Pinterest specifies PNG or JPEG and a maximum file size of 20 MB on desktop or 32 MB in-app. These limits belong to that ad specification; do not assume they apply to every Pin or upload context. Check the relevant Pinterest Pin specifications for the destination and format you are using.

Resize without cropping away important content
Changing a picture’s dimensions and changing its shape are not the same thing. A resize can scale an image, while fitting it into a 2:3 canvas may require cropping or adding space around it. Stretching a square or landscape image until it fills a tall canvas distorts people, products, and lettering.
- Crop: Use this when the edges can be trimmed without losing the subject or essential text. Reposition the image so faces, products, and lettering remain visible.
- Fit: Use this when the entire infographic, screenshot, or graphic must remain intact. Keep the original proportions and add intentional margins or a background to fill the extra canvas.
How to make a 1000 × 1500 Pinterest image
- Check the original dimensions and shape. Identify whether the source is square, landscape, or already portrait, and note any content close to its edges.
- Set a 1000 × 1500-pixel canvas. This gives a still image the recommended 2:3 shape.
- Choose crop or fit. Crop and reposition if trimming is safe. If all content must remain visible, fit the original image proportionally and add margins or a background.
- Export for the destination. For standard image ads, Pinterest lists PNG and JPEG; check the specification for the particular Pin or ad context before relying on those formats or file limits.
- Preview at a small mobile size. Make sure the main subject and text remain legible and are not placed right at the edges. Safe areas can vary by ad format, so consult that format’s specification for paid placements.
Free ways to resize a Pinterest image
Use Pinterest’s native options
Pinterest Creators says that new or existing content can be cropped or resized into formats including 9:16, 2:3, 3:4, 4:5, and 1:1. This is a useful route when you are preparing content within Pinterest, though the available options may depend on the content and workflow. Check Pinterest Creators’ FAQ for its current guidance.

Use an online resizer
Adobe Express describes an online workflow for Pinterest images: upload an image, select a Pinterest preset or enter dimensions, crop, then download. Adobe says its online tool can be used without an account. Its workflow is a separate browser tool, rather than a Pinterest feature; review the result to ensure the crop or added margins preserve what matters. Open Adobe Express’s Pinterest image resizer.
