Yes, there are free Connecteam alternatives—but the right choice depends on whether you need scheduling alone or scheduling plus a time clock. Before switching, check Connecteam’s own advertised free Small Business Plan: it covers up to 10 employees and includes several workforce-management feature areas. For a one-location hourly team that wants basic scheduling and time tracking, Homebase is a direct alternative to compare; for free scheduling and team communication for up to 30 users, consider Sling, but its mobile time tracking is paid.

Do you need to switch from Connecteam?

Not necessarily. Connecteam advertises a Small Business Plan free for up to 10 employees, with features across its Operations, Communications, and HR & Skills areas, including time clocking, task management, scheduling, forms, communication, and HR or skills tools. Check the Connecteam Small Business Plan for current eligibility and feature limits. Its pricing page distinguishes this offer from the limited plan available after a trial, so verify which plan applies to your account before making a decision.

Connecteam says its pricing is organized into three hubs, with fixed prices for the first 30 users and a per-user monthly charge starting with user 31. That structure is different from per-location pricing and per-user pricing elsewhere, so compare what your team would actually pay—not just the word “free.” See Connecteam’s pricing page for current terms.

Which free alternative fits your team?

Choose Homebase to compare free scheduling and time tracking for one location

Homebase’s Basic plan is the clearest fit among these alternatives if your business has one location, no more than 10 employees, and needs both basic scheduling and basic time tracking without a subscription fee. Its free tier is tied to the location as well as headcount, so a multi-location business should check the plan details before assuming the same coverage applies across sites.

Choose Sling when free scheduling matters more than a free time clock

Sling’s free plan covers up to 30 users and includes shift scheduling, time-off requests, available shifts, news sharing, and private messaging. That makes it worth comparing when the main problem is coordinating who works when and keeping shift communication together.

Keep Connecteam in the comparison if you use several workforce tools

If your team is within Connecteam’s advertised free-plan limit and uses its time clock, communication, tasks, forms, scheduling, or HR and skills functions, switching to a narrower free scheduling plan may mean giving up tools your team relies on. Compare the feature set you actually use and verify which functions remain available on the plan offered to your account.

Consider 7shifts for restaurant workflows, but verify the plan

7shifts is positioned around restaurant workforce needs, including scheduling, clocking, payroll, and communication. Its official pricing page is the right place to check current plans, but the available plan details here do not establish a free tier or its limits. A Homebase-authored alternatives article reports a 7shifts free plan for up to 15 employees at one location; because that is a competitor’s secondary comparison, confirm the claim with 7shifts before relying on it. See 7shifts pricing and the Homebase alternatives article.

How to compare the real cost before switching

A free plan can solve one part of the problem while leaving another—such as time tracking, payroll, or additional locations—on a paid plan. Compare the limits and billing basis side by side:

  • Team size: Connecteam and Homebase advertise free plans for up to 10 employees; Sling’s free scheduling plan covers up to 30 users. Check how each provider counts employees, users, or seats.
  • Locations: Homebase Basic is limited to one location. Confirm whether any alternative’s free allowance covers the number of sites or schedules you need.
  • Time clock: Homebase Basic includes basic time tracking; Connecteam’s advertised free plan lists time clocking; Sling’s mobile time tracking is paid.
  • Work beyond the schedule: Check whether you need team messaging, tasks, forms, onboarding, HR or training tools, and whether the free tier includes them.
  • Payroll: Confirm whether payroll is included, an add-on, or handled through an integration. Homebase lists payroll as an add-on with a base fee and per-paid-employee charge.
  • Billing basis: Homebase’s paid plans are priced per location, Sling’s paid tiers per user, and Connecteam describes fixed hub pricing for the first 30 users followed by per-user monthly pricing.
  • What happens when you exceed a cap: Ask whether you must upgrade, pay for another location or user, or remove people from the plan. Do not assume a free allowance scales automatically.

Plan pages and promotions can change. Connecteam’s pricing calculator says its public-price and feature inputs were reviewed August 30, 2026, and warns that estimates can vary with promotions, taxes, contract terms, add-ons, regional pricing, seat definitions, plan changes, and custom quotes. Confirm the current offer directly with each vendor before switching or budgeting.

A practical way to decide

  1. Write down what your team uses now. Separate must-haves—such as a time clock or schedule—from tools that are optional, such as forms or HR features.
  2. Check whether Connecteam still meets the need for free. If you have 10 or fewer employees, compare your account’s available Small Business Plan with the functions you use.
  3. Match the free plan to your main requirement. Start with Homebase if one location needs basic scheduling and tracking; compare Sling if scheduling and communication matter most and paid time tracking is acceptable.
  4. Calculate the cost at your actual size. Include every location, user, required paid feature, and payroll charge—not just the entry-level plan price.
  5. Verify the transition before moving the team. Confirm what data can be transferred and whether schedules, time records, and employee access will work as expected; the cited plan pages do not establish migration terms.
