Fred was criticizing Erik ten Hag’s man-management at Manchester United—not his tactical ability. Speaking on the Charla Podcast, Fred reportedly called Ten Hag “tactically very good” but condemned how he handled the squad. The claims about arguments, selection and losing the dressing room are Fred’s account, not independently established facts.

What Fred said about Ten Hag

FotMob quoted Fred describing the contrast this way: “Ten Hag was tactically very good, but with the group he was a piece of crap.” The remark was about how Ten Hag dealt with players, even as Fred credited him as a tactician.

Sports Illustrated also quoted Fred saying: “There are coaches who are very good tactically, but very bad with the group,” and then alleging: “He fought with Cristiano [Ronaldo], he fought with Casemiro, then he fought with me, with [Marcus] Rashford … that’s rough. The guy lost the locker room.” These are Fred’s reported comments on the Charla Podcast; the podcast recording was not independently reviewed, and the claims do not by themselves verify what happened within the squad.

Fred’s account of the Ronaldo tension

Fred connected the tension with Cristiano Ronaldo to Ten Hag’s demand that players run, Ronaldo’s age and his playing time. Fred recalled a fallout and referred to Ronaldo’s later critical interview. This is Fred’s recollection of the circumstances, rather than an independent account of the disagreement.

Fred’s accusation about Dutch players

Fred also alleged that only Ten Hag’s Dutch players played. That is an accusation about selection, not established selection data in the reporting. The available accounts do not independently substantiate it.

Ten Hag’s Manchester United tenure

FotMob reports that Manchester United appointed Ten Hag in June 2022 and dismissed him in October 2024. FotMob gives his record as 70 wins, 23 draws and 35 losses in 128 matches, and reports that he won the FA Cup and EFL Cup. These are FotMob’s figures, not independently recalculated here.
