Fortnite’s October 1, 2026 update was v42.30, not 5.22. Epic’s schedule places Fortnitemares through November 1, with Reload’s Nitemare Island content arriving October 8. The official announcements describe a staggered, mode-specific rollout—not a delay caused by the October 1 update.
What Fortnite update came out October 1, 2026?
Epic’s October 1 release notes identify the update as v42.30. The “5.22” designation in the original headline does not match Epic’s version number for that release. Epic’s notes cover Fortnite’s creator and ecosystem tools; they should not be read as a complete Battle Royale balance changelog.

The v42.30 notes list a new conversations template for LLM-powered characters, carryable items that are not weapons, in-editor Content Pre-Checks, and analytics benchmarks for island performance. They also identify Witch Broom and Slap Candy Corn as new content. Read Epic’s v42.30 Fortnite Ecosystem Updates and Release Notes.
Did the October 1 update delay Fortnitemares?
Epic’s official announcements do not establish that v42.30 delayed Fortnitemares. The October 1 release notes identify the update, while Epic’s event announcement gives Fortnitemares’ overall window and dates for content in specific modes. A later date for one mode’s content, by itself, is not evidence that the event was postponed.

There was already a Fortnitemares mention in Epic’s September 17 v42.20 notes: they said “Fortnitemares is coming.” Those notes also said Rocket Racing would leave Fortnite on October 1; they do not attribute any Fortnitemares timing to v42.30. See Epic’s v42.20 release notes.
When does Fortnitemares 2026 end?
Epic says Fortnitemares runs until November 1, 2026. Its announcement describes new Overrides and weapons, collaborations featuring Freddy Fazbear, Hazbin Hotel, Freddy Krueger, Beetlejuice, and Obsession, and Battle Royale mechanics including Spooky Sprinter, Berserk, and Spooky Prop Hunt.

The announcement’s stated end date is the clearest schedule answer; the event’s different features and modes do not all have to begin on the same day. Read Epic Games Communities Team’s Fortnitemares 2026 announcement.

When does Fortnitemares come to Reload?
Epic schedules Reload’s Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse for October 8, 2026. The announcement describes a refreshed map and horror weapons for that mode. This is a later, mode-specific arrival within the wider Fortnitemares window, not a revised start date for the entire event.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

What the dates mean for players
| Question | Official answer |
|---|---|
| What was the October 1 update? | v42.30, according to Epic’s October 1 ecosystem release notes. |
| When does Fortnitemares run until? | November 1, 2026, according to Epic’s event announcement. |
| When does Reload get Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse? | October 8, 2026, according to Epic’s event announcement. |
These dates answer different questions: the patch version identifies an update, November 1 is the event’s announced end date, and October 8 is the announced arrival for Reload content. Epic’s v42.30 ecosystem notes do not provide a complete account of Battle Royale balance changes.
