Alabama resident Edward Lee Frith, 29, was arrested by the FBI on September 23, 2026, after Epic Games made a voluntary emergency disclosure concerning alleged threats in Fortnite voice chat, according to published reports. The reported arrest and charge are allegations—not proof of guilt—and the available reporting does not establish a conviction or later court outcome.
What reportedly happened
Dexerto reported on October 6, 2026, that Frith used the Fortnite account name WagesOfNinja. The outlet said Epic sent the FBI a voluntary emergency disclosure on September 20 concerning statements allegedly made in voice chat, and that agents arrested Frith three days later. Section 875(c) concerns certain communications containing threats to kidnap or injure another person when transmitted in interstate or foreign commerce. The charge is an allegation. An arrest or complaint does not establish that the alleged conduct occurred or that Frith is guilty.

FindLaw describes the statute as carrying a potential maximum penalty of five years in prison. That is a statutory maximum cited by the explainer, not a prediction of a sentence or an indication that a conviction has occurred.
How Fortnite voice reporting works—and what is not known here
Epic Online Services says that when voice reporting is enabled, a participant can affirmatively report a conversation through the in-game feature, which sends an audio copy to Epic. The reporting available here does not establish precisely how Epic obtained the audio or how any in-game report related to the emergency disclosure. It also does not support the claim that Fortnite continuously sends all voice-chat audio to Epic.
