There is no confirmation in the official sources reviewed that Fortnite accounts are being hit by a widespread hacking wave or that Epic is issuing blanket refunds to hacked players. Reports of stolen accounts and removed items are not enough to establish an incident’s scope or cause. If you suspect someone accessed your account, secure it and contact Epic through its official support or recovery route.
What is—and isn’t—confirmed
Epic’s published materials describe account-security safeguards and explain how refunds or payment reversals can affect purchases. Its public status history showed no incidents reported from September 23 through September 30, 2026; that page does not track every individual account compromise. Social posts describing theft or refunds are unverified reports, not proof of a mass incident.
The sources do not establish that an Epic breach exposed a particular kind of personal information. Unless Epic gives you an incident-specific notice, treat suspected access as an account-security problem: check for unauthorized changes and act to regain control. Epic says it monitors accounts for signs of compromise and may require a password reset, but that policy is not evidence that a breach occurred.

Secure your account and respond to suspected access
- Change to a unique Epic password. Do not reuse a password from another service or share it. Epic says it will never ask you for your password.
- Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA). Epic’s guidance says signing in then requires a short-lived, one-time security code in addition to your username and password.
- Contact Epic through its official support or recovery route if you cannot sign in or suspect unauthorized access. Epic’s Terms of Service say to notify Epic Support if you discover or suspect unauthorized account access; its security policy says support can help compromised players.
- Review unfamiliar charges and changes. Keep relevant transaction details and communicate through official support channels. Epic’s guidance does not guarantee that an account, item, or payment can be recovered.
Epic describes its safeguards as follows: “We automatically and continuously check all Epic accounts for signs of compromise.” This is a statement of policy, not a guarantee that every intrusion will be prevented or reversed.

Why items or V-Bucks may disappear
An item or V-Bucks removal does not by itself show that a hacker or a mass-refund program was involved. Epic says an item can be removed after a refund or payment reversal, commonly following a refund request or chargeback. If a gift sender’s payment is reversed, the gift can be reversed as well. Epic Player Support says it cannot restore items removed for these reasons.
Where to take a purchase or refund issue
The right route depends on who processed the payment and what happened. These situations are not interchangeable:

| Situation | Where to go | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Unrecognized purchase processed by Epic | Submit a ticket to Epic Support. | Epic’s guidance says qualifying charges must be less than 90 days old. This is an eligibility limit, not a promise of a refund. |
| Purchase processed by a console or mobile platform | Contact the platform’s support, such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Samsung Galaxy Store, Windows Store, or Steam, as applicable. | Epic says it cannot directly refund transactions made through PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch, and it cannot guarantee a third-party refund. |
| Item removed after a refund or payment reversal | Check the transaction and contact the relevant payment or platform support if needed. | Epic says Player Support cannot restore items removed because of a refund or reversal. The removal alone does not identify who initiated the reversal. |
| FTC Fortnite refund program | No new claims are being accepted. | This was a historical settlement for specified unwanted-purchase claims, not a general hacked-account refund. |
The FTC program is separate from hacked-account support
The FTC says its Fortnite refund claim deadline was July 9, 2025, and claims are closed. Eligibility covered specified historical claims: unwanted in-game currency charges from January 2017 through September 2022; certain child charges from January 2017 through November 2018; or accounts locked after cardholder disputes from January 2017 through September 2022. A claimant had to be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian file.

It expects additional payments in 2026 after reviewing and validating claims already filed. Those settlement payments are not reimbursements from Epic for a current account hack.
