Fortitude Mining has signed a non-binding letter of intent with BITMAIN for priority access to unreleased, next-generation Zcash mining equipment. The commitment is indicative and capped at up to $100 million; it is not a completed purchase. Final specifications and pricing—and a later binding purchase agreement—are still required.
What is Fortitude’s BITMAIN Zcash mining equipment deal?
Fortitude Mining Holdings said on October 5, 2026, that its subsidiary Fortitude Mining, LLC entered a letter of intent (LOI) with BITMAIN Technologies Delaware Limited. The agreement provides a priority supply allocation for BITMAIN’s next-generation Zcash mining equipment, which had not yet been commercially released. Fortitude’s announcement describes the commitment as indicative and non-binding, for up to $100 million.
The LOI is a preliminary procurement arrangement, not a finalized equipment order. The parties would need to agree to a binding purchase agreement after BITMAIN releases final specifications and pricing. Fortitude said the commitment could be increased subject to availability and BITMAIN’s consent, or decreased, after the equipment’s official announcement.
Did Fortitude actually buy $100 million of Zcash miners?
No. The announced amount is an upper limit on a non-binding commitment, not evidence that Fortitude has purchased $100 million of machines or paid that amount. The hardware’s final price and specifications were not available when the LOI was announced, and a later binding agreement remains a condition of the planned purchase.

When could the equipment arrive?
Fortitude said it expected shipments to begin in Q2 2027. That is the company’s forward-looking expectation, not a confirmed delivery date. The equipment was unreleased at announcement, and shipment timing may depend on final specifications, pricing, and the eventual purchase agreement.
How does the LOI fit Fortitude’s existing mining operation?
Fortitude reported an operating base of approximately 4.7 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate and more than 60 MW of contracted power capacity across seven sites in South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, and New York. These are company-reported figures, not independent measures of the broader Zcash mining market.

The separate Z15 Pro order
Fortitude had also announced an order for 9,000 BITMAIN ANTMINER Z15 Pro units. Fortitude describes the Z15 Pro as a purpose-built Equihash ASIC. That is a separate, specifically identified order; the company has not identified the unreleased equipment covered by the new LOI as Z15 Pro machines. The model’s name and unit count therefore should not be attributed to the new commitment. Fortitude’s company website provides its company and equipment context.
Fortitude CEO Jaime Leverton said the company’s vision is to become “the largest vertically-integrated Zcash mining platform,” adding that the allocation would position it to expand its fleet as the equipment becomes available. The statement is the company’s strategic aim, not a verified ranking or market-share claim.

How does Fortitude plan to fund the deposit?
The LOI calls for a refundable deposit equal to 20% of the commitment, which Fortitude described as $20 million. The company said it planned to draw $20 million under an amended credit facility that week, expected the funding in ZEC from DCG, and planned to sell the ZEC to fund the deposit. Those are planned steps, not confirmation that the draw, funding, sale, or deposit had been completed.
Fortitude said its credit-facility commitment had increased from $50 million to $70 million and that approximately $42.7 million of borrowing capacity remained after the amendment, subject to the facility’s terms. These are figures from Fortitude’s announcement, not a general measure of available financing for Zcash miners. The Block’s October 6, 2026 coverage also reported the LOI and company operating and financing figures; the contractual terms above are from Fortitude’s release.

What remains unknown?
- The new equipment’s model name, technical specifications, and final pricing.
- Whether Fortitude and BITMAIN will execute a binding purchase agreement, and what its final amount and terms will be.
- Whether shipments will begin on Fortitude’s expected Q2 2027 schedule.
- The new equipment’s hashrate, unit count, power consumption, and resulting contribution to Fortitude’s capacity.
Until BITMAIN or Fortitude publishes those details, the unreleased machines cannot be meaningfully compared with the named Z15 Pro order by unit count, hashrate, or efficiency. The announcement establishes a planned supply allocation and potential spending ceiling—not delivered capacity.
