You may be able to exit Kid Mode without factory-resetting your phone, but the right recovery depends on which feature is asking for the PIN. Samsung Kids, Android’s built-in parental controls, and Google Family Link use different controls and recovery paths. Check the exact name on the screen before trying a fix.
Identify which PIN screen you have
“Kid mode” is not one universal Android feature. Use the product name shown on the PIN screen or in Settings:
- Samsung Kids: Samsung’s child-friendly environment on supported Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung says it is available on devices running Android 9.0 and above; carrier availability varies. Samsung Canada’s exit guidance and Samsung US’s PIN guidance describe Samsung Kids-specific methods.
- Android parental controls: The PIN-managed controls in Android Settings. Google’s recovery route is separate from Samsung Kids and depends on whether a recovery account was configured. Google Android Help explains the PIN options.
- Family Link: Parental supervision managed through a parent’s Google account. Removing a child’s account from one device is a parent-managed device change, not a way to recover or bypass another PIN. Google’s Family Link guidance explains its effect.
If you are unsure, note the device brand and model, Android or One UI version, region, and the exact wording on the screen. Those details matter because the Samsung instructions are not universal Android steps.

Forgot a Samsung Kids PIN? Try the supported recovery options
Try the device screen lock if it was configured
Samsung Kids can be configured to use either a custom Kids PIN or the device’s screen lock. If the device lock was selected, try those credentials when exiting. Samsung’s normal exit path is More options → Close Samsung Kids, followed by the configured PIN or screen-lock credentials. This will not help if the credential you selected is the one you forgot.

Request a temporary password using Samsung’s US instructions
Samsung’s US guidance says that after five incorrect PIN attempts, you can send a blank email from the registered email address to kidshome.pin@samsung.com. Check the reply and spam folder for Samsung’s temporary password, then use it to reset the PIN. This option may depend on your device, initial setup, and region; it is not established as available everywhere.
Reset the Samsung Kids app in Safe Mode
If the password route is unavailable, Samsung Canada documents uninstalling Samsung Kids from Safe Mode. This resets the app; it is not a factory reset of the entire phone or tablet.

- Open the device’s power menu. The button combination can vary on newer Galaxy models.
- Touch and hold Power off until Safe mode appears, then tap Safe mode to restart.
- In Safe Mode, open Settings, find Samsung Kids, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart the device normally to leave Safe Mode.
Samsung says the device will no longer be in Samsung Kids mode, but you will need to set up the app again. Its settings return to defaults. Do not assume that app data or child-created content will be preserved; Samsung’s cited instructions do not promise that.
Android parental-controls PIN: recovery depends on a recovery account
For Android’s built-in parental-controls PIN, go to Settings → Parental controls → Manage parental controls PIN → Forgot PIN. Google says this recovery option works only if a recovery account was configured. If no recovery account was set up, Google says a factory reset is required. The PIN’s Delete option also requires the PIN, so it does not provide a forgotten-PIN bypass.

Family Link: a parent can remove the child’s account from one device
If the screen concerns Family Link supervision, ask the parent who manages the child’s Google account to make the change. Google allows a parent to remove the child’s account from an individual Android device, either through Family Link or through device settings where available. This removes account-associated information and parental-supervision settings from that device; supervision remains on the child’s account elsewhere. Google recommends a factory reset to clear remaining app data. Treat this as parent-managed account removal, not PIN recovery or data-preserving removal.

If none of these instructions matches your screen
Do not use third-party bypass apps, rooting, ADB commands, or exploit workarounds to defeat parental controls. If a parent manages the device, involve them for PIN recovery or Family Link changes. For model-specific help, check the device maker’s current support instructions using the exact screen text, model, software version, and region; the routes above do not establish one procedure for every Android device.
