Florian Wirtz scored twice and helped create two more goals as Germany beat Switzerland 4–3 in Basel on 27 March 2026. His 86th-minute strike proved the winner after Germany had twice fallen behind.
How Wirtz shaped Germany’s win over Switzerland
Germany’s official match report describes Wirtz operating behind returning striker Kai Havertz. From that position, the Liverpool midfielder contributed at several key moments in a match that swung repeatedly between the teams. The Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB) match report records Germany’s 4–3 victory in Basel on 27 March 2026.

Germany’s 4–3 win over Switzerland was not Wirtz’s only notable international performance in 2026. In a separate match, Germany beat Serbia 2–0 on 1 October. Liverpool.com’s report, published the following day, says Wirtz contributed to both goals: Tom Bischof scored after Wirtz’s shot hit the post, and Wirtz then scored himself. That Serbia performance came months after the Switzerland match and should not be confused with it.

Earlier, Liverpool FC reported that Wirtz assisted Felix Nmecha in Germany’s 7–1 opening win over Curaçao at the World Cup. The club’s report identifies Wirtz as Liverpool’s No. 7. The Curaçao result is separate background, not part of the Switzerland scoreline.
