Flipverse was Flipkart’s short-lived, app-based virtual shopping pilot, announced with eDAO on October 17, 2022. Its first edition was designed for Android and planned to run for one week, combining product discovery, brand experiences, games, Supercoins and digital collectibles. Flipkart later described a broader Virtual Worlds initiative in 2023, but the available official information does not establish whether Flipverse can be accessed today.
What was Flipverse, and how did it work?
Flipkart presented Flipverse as a virtual destination inside its shopping app where people could explore products and then shop through Flipkart. Rather than browsing only a conventional product grid, users entered a game-like environment with brand experiences and interactive elements. The launch announcement described the destination as photorealistic and listed Supercoins and digital collectibles among its features. The first edition was Android-only and was planned to be live for a week, according to Flipkart’s October 17, 2022 launch announcement.
The launch announcement named brands across several categories, including Puma, Noise, Nivea, Lavie, Tokyo Talkies, Campus, VIP, Ajmal Perfumes, Himalaya and Butterfly India. That list documents the pilot’s variety; it does not establish that those brands participate in Flipverse now.

Technology partner SURREAL said its October 2022 activation used Epic Games’ Unreal Engine and pixel-streaming technology. SURREAL also reported that users could explore more than 100 products from 13 brands. These are details from the partner’s account, not independently reported performance findings; see SURREAL’s October 31, 2022 account.

What did Flipkart say about Flipverse after the pilot?
In a September 5, 2023 announcement, Flipkart positioned Flipverse within a broader Virtual Worlds initiative. It described two formats: customized virtual worlds dedicated to individual brands, and shared spaces where brands could appear together inside Flipkart’s Virtual World, Flipverse. The company identified Layer-E as a key external technology partner for these Virtual World experiences. This is distinct from SURREAL’s account of its role in the 2022 pilot.
Flipkart said the pilot had run for six days and reported that participants came from 2,300 cities. It also said users who created avatars spent six times more time in Flipverse than the average user. These are company-reported engagement figures; the announcement does not provide independent validation or detailed measurement methods. Flipkart additionally cited a separate virtual laptop showroom containing 45–50 laptops, an example of its wider Virtual Worlds work rather than a Flipverse product count.

How was Flipverse different from ordinary online shopping?
| Shopping element | Conventional online shopping | Flipverse pilot as described by Flipkart |
|---|---|---|
| Product discovery | Browse product listings and pages. | Explore products in a virtual environment. |
| Interaction | Standard app browsing. | Games, brand experiences, avatars and digital collectibles were part of the pilot’s described features. |
| Access | Use the shopping service through its ordinary app experience. | The first edition was Android-only; Flipkart’s 2023 Virtual Worlds description also discussed rendered app experiences. |
| Purchase path | Shop through the retailer’s online storefront. | Flipverse was presented as a discovery experience with shopping through the Flipkart app, not as a documented independent marketplace. |
The distinction was chiefly about how people encountered products. The available company statements describe an immersive discovery format; they do not establish that it increased sales or conversion compared with ordinary product pages.
