Flipkart and 22feet India made an appliance exchange campaign feel like a fond send-off: their fictional “Home for Old Age Appliances” imagines a retirement home for household devices that have served their owners for years. The concept was part of Flipkart’s Big Billion Days campaign, not a real facility. The campaign report mentions an exchange bonus, but does not give its amount or the offer’s eligibility and terms.
What is the “Home for Old Age Appliances”?
“Home for Old Age Appliances” (HOAA) is a fictional setting created for Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale campaign with 22feet, part of Omnicom Advertising India. The film gives appliances personalities, routines and needs, using humor to present exchange as a thoughtful handover rather than simply getting rid of an old device. Campaign Brief Asia reported on the campaign on October 7, 2026; Indian Television Dot Com also covered it.
The creative idea starts from the possibility that people grow attached to appliances and may put off upgrading, sometimes repairing or patching up products that no longer work well. That is the campaign’s stated insight, not a quantified finding about Indian consumers. Its central question, as reported by Campaign Brief Asia, was: “if these appliances have spent years taking care of our homes, what would a home made just for them look like?”

The campaign film imagines a retirement home where each appliance can settle into a space suited to its personality. The humor is in treating familiar product quirks as individual needs: noisy appliances get a karaoke zone, laptops get a yoga zone, and mixers have a place where nobody asks them to lower their voice.

Mumbai activation
Campaign reports say the idea extended to an in-person activation at North Studio in Mumbai on October 3 and 4, 2026. The temporary experience included a recreation area, a themed bar and a wellness space. Visitors could pose for photographs and take away a keepsake. It was an activation built around a fictional premise—not an appliance retirement, repair or recycling service.

What the campaign says about the actual exchange offer
The campaign coverage says Big Billion Days shoppers could receive an exchange bonus on top of the old appliance’s exchange value. It does not establish the bonus amount, eligible models, sale dates, local pickup coverage or full terms. The campaign concept should not be read as a promise that every old appliance qualifies or receives a particular value.

Flipkart’s separate September 20, 2025 announcement describes an exchange process: a shopper selects an eligible new product, enters the old product’s brand, model and condition, and sees an initial value applied to the purchase. The old item is inspected at the doorstep; Flipkart says the final value is confirmed after inspection and customer approval by OTP. Categories and cross-category examples in Flipkart’s 2025 information
Flipkart’s 2025 announcement names selected exchange categories including mobiles, laptops, refrigerators, washing machines and small appliances. It gives cross-category examples, such as exchanging a refrigerator toward a washing machine, or a fan or microwave toward a water purifier, chimney, vacuum cleaner, geyser or juicer mixer grinder. Flipkart’s exchange-store page also lists TVs, refrigerators, mixer grinders, ceiling fans and microwave ovens. Listings and offers can vary, so check the current product page and terms rather than treating those examples as a universal eligibility list. See Flipkart’s exchange-store listings.
How to judge an exchange before replacing an appliance
For an appliance such as a refrigerator, the campaign’s playful framing does not tell you whether exchange is the best deal. Compare the complete cost and conditions for the specific replacement you want.

- Check the exchange value currently displayed for the old appliance and the conditions that can change it after inspection.
- Confirm whether a separate exchange bonus applies to the replacement, and read its eligibility and timing terms.
- Verify pickup coverage for your address and whether the old appliance’s brand, model and condition qualify.
- Compare the final replacement cost, including any delivery or installation charges shown at checkout, with the appliance’s specifications and price.
The campaign reports do not provide current values for these comparisons. Flipkart’s 2025 description says its initial exchange value can be confirmed or changed after doorstep inspection, so the displayed estimate should not be mistaken for a guaranteed final credit.
What Flipkart has said about exchanged items
Exchange value and end-of-life handling are separate questions. In a June 26, 2023 announcement about a program for non-functional appliances, smartphones and feature phones, Flipkart said items could be picked up at the customer’s doorstep and handled by authorized vendors for refurbishment, recycling or responsible disposal depending on condition. In its September 2025 statement, Flipkart also said it partners with certified e-waste recycling agencies. Those dated statements do not establish that every appliance exchanged under the 2026 campaign follows the same route. Read Flipkart’s 2023 announcement.

Flipkart’s 2023 announcement quoted then-Senior Director and Re-Commerce Business Head Ashutosh Singh Chandel citing a MeitY policy paper: India generated 3.2 million tonnes of e-waste in 2019, and 10 percent of waste was collected for recycling. These are historical figures attributed by Flipkart to that paper, not current estimates.
Why the campaign matters—and what it does not prove
HOAA gives a familiar retail exchange a more affectionate story: an old appliance is not just discarded, but imagined as moving on after years of service. The creative conceit and Mumbai activation make that idea tangible through personification and jokes. The campaign reports provide no performance figures, and the stated consumer hesitation insight is not backed there by an independently verified survey. Its significance is therefore the creative framing, not evidence that it changed upgrade behavior or improved exchange outcomes.
