Flex, formerly known as Flextronics, is expanding automotive manufacturing capacity in Zalaegerszeg, western Hungary. A Hungarian government announcement dated 23 March 2026 puts the project at 35.5 billion forint, says it will receive 8 billion forint in state support and lists 210 planned new jobs. The announcement marked the foundation stone laying for a new warehouse; it does not mean the facility is complete or that the jobs have been filled.

What is Flex building in Hungary?

The March 2026 announcement describes a capacity expansion and a new warehouse in Zalaegerszeg. It does not identify a completion date or say when expanded production will begin. The milestone reported was the warehouse groundbreaking, not its completion. The Government of Hungary’s announcement gives the project value as 35.5 billion forint and state support as 8 billion forint.

Earlier, on 29 May 2024, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) described a planned EUR 90 million investment across two Zalaegerszeg sites: Zala B and the ZalaZone area. HIPA said the work would expand manufacturing halls for producing electric and hybrid vehicle components. HIPA’s announcement and the 2026 government report give different currencies and headline investment figures, but do not explain how their accounting scopes relate. They should be treated as dated descriptions, not added together or converted into a single project total.

What will the expanded operation make?

HIPA said the planned production is high-tech components for electric and hybrid vehicles, intended for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. The announcement does not name specific parts, vehicle models or customers. It describes automotive components—not finished cars, battery cells or consumer electronics.

Flex’s Hungarian legal entity, Flextronics International Kft., already had automotive electronics manufacturing and R&D activity in Zalaegerszeg, according to its report for the year ended 31 March 2025. That report also refers to ongoing automotive capacity expansion. The FY2025 business report documents existing operations; it does not establish that the newly announced warehouse or expansion is complete.

How many jobs are planned?

The Hungarian government’s 23 March 2026 announcement lists 210 new jobs for the capacity expansion. HIPA’s 29 May 2024 account also gives 210 planned positions and specifies that 20 were intended to be R&D roles. Flex’s own 29 May 2024 announcement likewise forecast approximately 210 skilled jobs, including 20 in R&D. These are announced plans, not verified hiring totals; the 2026 government announcement does not separately confirm the R&D breakdown.

How do the investment figures fit together?

The public announcements provide several figures, but they do not reconcile their scope. Keep each attached to its source and date rather than treating it as a revised total or a directly comparable accounting measure.

Is the project in Zalaegerszeg or Sárvár?

The expansion described in the 2024 and 2026 announcements is in Zalaegerszeg. Sárvár is a separate Flex location. The FY2025 report describes a warehouse purchase beside the Sárvár Industrial Park to meet rising logistics needs; that purchase is distinct from the Zalaegerszeg warehouse groundbreaking reported in March 2026.

Flex’s Global Locations directory lists Hungarian sites including Budapest, Gyál, Nyíregyháza, Sárvár, Tab, Üllő and Zalaegerszeg. The company’s current corporate brand is Flex, while its Hungarian entity’s report is titled Flextronics International Kft.
