If Windows 11 Do Not Disturb keeps turning on, check its automatic rules first: go to Settings > System > Notifications, expand Turn on do not disturb automatically, and disable the rule that matches when the mode returns. Then check whether a Focus session is enabling it.
1. Find the automatic rule that is switching it on
Windows 11 can enable Do Not Disturb when a configured condition is met. Open Settings > System > Notifications and expand Turn on do not disturb automatically. Compare the listed conditions with what was happening when Do Not Disturb came back on.
- During these times: If it turns on at a particular time, inspect the schedule. Microsoft’s accessibility guidance describes setting start and end times and choosing whether the schedule repeats.
- When duplicating my display: Check this if the mode returns while you are mirroring or duplicating a display.
- When playing a game: Check this if it happens while a game is running.
- When using an app in full-screen mode: Check this if it coincides with an app taking up the full screen.
- For the first hour after a Windows feature update: Check this if the timing follows a feature update.
Turn off the matching rule, or adjust its settings if you want the behavior only at certain times. Microsoft lists these automatic conditions in its Windows notification settings guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2. Check whether a Focus session is enabling it
Open Settings > System > Focus and check whether a Focus session is active or scheduled. Microsoft says that starting a Focus session turns on Do Not Disturb automatically to silence notifications. It also notes that if Do Not Disturb was already on before the session began, it stays on after the session ends. See Microsoft Support’s Focus guidance.

3. Check whether notifications were redirected
When Do Not Disturb is on, most notifications are sent to Notification Center instead of appearing as banners. Open Notification Center to review notifications that were silenced. Alarms, reminders, and apps you have allowed can still show banners while the mode is on; see Microsoft’s notification guidance.
4. If it still turns on
If no listed automatic rule matches and no Focus session is active, the Microsoft guidance cited above does not establish another cause or a general repair for recurring activation. Check the settings again when the mode returns, and verify the labels against your installed Windows version if they differ. Avoid treating registry edits, third-party utilities, or hardware changes as Microsoft-documented fixes.
