If Adobe Premiere Pro 26.3 leaks memory or reports render errors while using Camera Shake, update to Premiere 26.5 or later. Adobe says the defect occurred when the effect fell back to CPU (software) rendering and affected both Mac and Windows. Persistent scrub lag may have a different cause: Adobe lists separate issues involving thumbnail hover scrubbing and certain high-bitrate H.264 UHD video.
Update Premiere to fix the Camera Shake memory leak
Adobe lists a Camera Shake defect in Premiere 26.3: when rendering fell back to CPU (software) mode, the effect could cause a memory leak and rendering errors. Adobe identifies both Mac and Windows as affected. The company says the issue was fixed in Premiere 26.5. Use version 26.5 or later to address this specific defect; Adobe’s desktop release notes retrieved for September 2026 show version 26.5.1.
Check the installed version in Premiere before troubleshooting further. If you are on 26.3 and see the Camera Shake-related problem, install a newer Premiere release. Adobe’s stated fix is the software update, not a memory cleaner, cache purge, plugin change, RAM upgrade, or new GPU. Adobe’s known and fixed issues list documents the affected version, platforms, rendering condition, and fix.

Determine whether the remaining lag is a separate scrubbing issue
Updating to 26.5 or later addresses the documented Camera Shake defect, but it does not establish that every kind of Premiere scrub lag will disappear. Adobe’s 26.5 release notes list other performance issues separately, without attributing them to Camera Shake.

- Thumbnail hover scrubbing: Adobe notes that thumbnail hover scrubbing could appear laggy or skip frames.
- Timeline scrubbing with certain media: Adobe notes reduced performance when scrubbing certain high-bitrate H.264 UHD video.
When diagnosing a problem that remains after updating, note whether the lag happens while hovering over thumbnails or while scrubbing the timeline. Also record the media type, particularly whether it is high-bitrate H.264 UHD, and whether Camera Shake is applied. These distinctions help separate the documented Camera Shake defect from the other categories Adobe describes; they do not, by themselves, identify a universal fix for all scrubbing problems. What the fix does—and does not—confirm
The version 26.5 fix applies to the specific Camera Shake memory leak and render-error defect Adobe documented for 26.3 under CPU/software-rendering fallback. If scrubbing is still slow, that symptom alone does not show that the Camera Shake bug remains: Adobe documents other scrubbing issues separately, and the notes do not say they share the same cause. The cited Adobe documentation does not establish a hardware purchase or third-party utility as a remedy.
