Five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III were brought safely ashore after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Embassy of India in Muscat said. The embassy said it coordinated the rescue and thanked Omani authorities for their assistance. The projectile’s origin and the extent of any damage have not been disclosed.
What happened to MT Kazimah III?
In a statement dated October 2, 2026, the Embassy of India in Muscat said it coordinated the rescue of five Indian nationals aboard MT Kazimah III after the tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. The embassy said all five were shifted ashore safely and thanked Omani authorities for their support. India Today reproduced the embassy’s statement; news coverage describing the post appeared October 3.
The statement does not give the precise time of the strike, when rescue coordination began, or where the five were taken ashore. It confirms their safe-shore outcome, not the condition of the vessel.

What is known about the tanker and its route?
NDTV, in coverage syndicated from ANI, described MT Kazimah III as a crude oil tanker sailing under Kuwait’s flag and reported that it was en route to Lomé, Togo. Those vessel and destination details are attributed to that report; the available accounts do not independently verify the vessel’s registry, ownership, cargo, or live position.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow sea passage linking the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Arabian Sea, according to The Tribune’s PTI report.
Who attacked the tanker, and was it damaged?
The reports do not identify who launched the projectile or what kind of weapon it was. They also do not provide a damage assessment. The accounts reviewed give no confirmed information about injuries, an oil spill, or effects on other shipping, so none of those outcomes can be inferred from the rescue announcement.

What did India say about other seafarers in the region?
In an ANI-syndicated report published October 3, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was quoted with figures from a briefing earlier that week: more than 4,500 Indian seafarers aboard commercial vessels operating in the area, and about 163 Indian seafarers aboard 12 cargo vessels—six Indian-flagged and six foreign-flagged. These are reported, time-sensitive briefing figures, not independently checked current counts. Jaiswal also said the Ministry of Shipping was monitoring vessel movements and seafarer welfare with diplomatic missions and local stakeholders. NDTV’s ANI-syndicated report carries the attribution.
